That Time of the Season Once Again

Hello all, hope everybody is having a good holiday.

I'm a bit too hopped up on eggnog right now to really go into depth, but for anybody who remains who cares to hear it, I'll try and have a status update pretty soon.

Hope everybody is enjoying the season! Merry Christmas~!

I found some VINTAGE Brony Meme Stupidity in the back of my closet

So, no real work done on anything creative right now, my dudes. Still working through my shit. Getting a lot of therapy, but unfortunately the "greater situation" I'm dealing with is both existential, ongoing, and an annoyingly hot topic right now, so it's an uphill battle.

    Happy Yearly Holiday Update

Huh. I wonder if anybody still checks this page. I've been pretty dead on this site for a while now.

Happy Holidays to everybody out there who still finds themselves entranced by stories of technicolor equines. I hope everybody is having a Merry Christmas.

    The Yearly Holiday Janitorial Update

    *peeks in*

...Is anybody even still watching this space?

So, another year has gone by and I'm afraid, once again, I have little to show for it.

    Christmas Wishes, Apologies, and Updates

Hello, everybody. Long time no... well... anything really.

It's been exactly one year since I've given anybody here any blog whatsoever, and that was just a quick Christmas gag. It's been even longer since I've actually given anybody any updates on any of my stories or what's going on in my life.

Java to view FiMFiction? · 6:32am Jul 2nd, 2014

Is this happening to anybody else? I can't access comments or certain sections of FiMFiction if I don't download the latest version of Java!

Has this ever been necessary before? I seriously don't think it has. I don't ever remember having to do that. There have been times I've gone for weeks or even months without updating Java and I've been able to access FiMFiction. Is anybody else dealing with this? Is there some new feature that requires it? What the hell?

well, I updated my java using the appropriate ORACLE website Downloads, I was slightly out of date. But I think that what's been popping up is spam or a virus. I just navigate away from it when it rears its ugly head. And no, updating did not make it stop.

I just updated Java and restarted. I can access pages again, so I dunno. Maybe it is spam. It IS asking for you to download things in a redirect message, so that's... concerning to say the least.

Thankfully, my grandmother runs Mac on her desktop so I'm pretty sure those are immune to most virusy things.

Scratch that. I'm getting them again. This must be spam/virus scamming of some kind. I can GUARANTEE that I just downloaded the latest version of Java so there's no legitimate reason that I should be getting these messages. Either there's some sort of ad that wants to play that needs something specific that I don't have or there's some kind of virus scamming thingamagoo going down on this site.

We've got trouble here in River City, I tell ya's.

You shouldn't need java to view stuff on this website. I'm pretty sure Knighty didn't program Java stuff into the website, so whatever errors you are getting is probably ad spam or viruses. Just curious, what kind of messages are you getting? Is it a pop-up that just says "you need the latest version of Java to run this."? Or does it completely cover the entire page? What are you seeing?

You might have accidentally installed malware onto your computer when you downloaded something recently. I highly suggest downloading Malwarebytes onto your computer and do a scan. It's free, and it works. I know there's not a lot of trust to go around on the internet, but trust me on this one. I'm not trying to sell you a product here. You might want to throw in a anti-virus scan in there as well.

The last think I can think of is that some piece of software ninja'd onto your browser add-ons and is now messing with your browser. Try checking your add-ons to see if there's anything suspicious.

Just read your comment now. You're doing this on a Mac? Sorry, can't help you there. Mac's aren't supposed to get viruses, but they do exist. Maybe try a Google search?

I'm on my Grandmother's computer right now. if I accidentally downloaded a virus I'm toast. >_<

She runs Mac, though. Isn't that supposed to be, like, completely immune to viruses? That's what my uncle always said.

It's a redirect. It doesn't cover the whole screen. I try to get on a page and it redirects me to another site, telling me to download the latest version of java to view this content.

I'd install Malwarebytes (I have it on my PC) but I dunno if it's compatible with Mac.

I'd be more worried about that, though, if it did it anywhere other than FiMFiction. It only does it on FiMfiction and no other site on the internet. I've been checking all my other frequently visited sites, and none of them are doing this. Just FiMFiction, and only on pages that have ad content I think. It doesn't show up in my message hub or when I go to a "write blog" page or other things like that.

I think it's spam on this site. Especially since Merlos seems to be getting it too.

Yes I was!

You all might wanna tell Knighty, or Xaquseg about this, because I'm not getting anything. But if a multitude of you are getting Java update messages, then it's the website. I can only guess how many others are getting it as well.

So Dusty, don't worry about a virus on your grandmother's Mac. It's the website.

I've been getting them but a simple clicky click of that coveted X button is all it takes to dispel their horrific presence.

Yeah, I've gotten that before. Some type of virus has gotten on your web browser. Delete whatever web browser you're using from your computer (Chrome, Firefox, etc), and re-install it. That's what I did, and it fixed all the problems I had. (If you're using Safari, then you might want to download either Chrome or Firefox, so you have some way to access the internet.)

It's harder to get a virus on Macs, but they're not immune. Also after reading the comments, I'm almost positive the problem you have is what I described above. If that doesn't fix this issue you're having let me know.

apparently, from knighty's blog post, the java updates are basically ads. knighty already fixed it.
