    PP vs. What I've Become

Knight Breeze's What I've Become might not be a name you've heard before, but given its stats, especially the over 60,000 views, I feel safe calling it a fandom classic. :) Major spoilers ahead for a ten-year-old story!

Fic recs, May 20th: Project Get! #17!

Hey! :D Welcome back to Project Get!, where I sort my RIL by views and grab the last 10 on the list that aren't sequels, unfinished, or by the same author twice! I've been trying to do this a lot more frequently, but 'frequent' has not exactly described these blogs out of me, has it? D: I dunno if that could change in the near future. I've got outpatient surgery on Wednesday this week, so I'm

It actually feels lately like I've been crawling out of a pit? So maybe there's a light ahead? But it's also blocked by Balatro lol somepony save me D:

The only other thing relevant to this blog is that I've had notes for a vs. post sitting in my notes document for probably the entire month now, what is wrong with me? D:

Fic recs, April 22nd: Jordan179 edition

Once again, though a good bit late, I bring it upon myself to memorialize an author via reviews of their stories. Though this time, it's different, as I had no connection to Jordan179 and only learned of his passing (three years ago this month, coincidentally), from this post

I get to do one of those "my fic is in another language now" journals! · 2:29pm Jun 25th, 2014

Every time I get a new fave on a story, I'll go and click that little graph button to check and see how the views are handling. And after doing so for Dinky's First Kill, I just so happened to notice a tiny sliver of yellow in the pie chart.

Lo and behold, it's in Chinese now. The title is "first killing".

How cool is that? I am of course reading the back-translated version supplied by Chrome. Dinky's name is apparently "Little Angel", Carrot Top is "Radish Sharp", Tootsie Flute is "MUNDI" and Pipsqueak is "Phi Phi" or "Pippi". Fluttershy is "Kocho sister". Boopsie is "Mr. Bo Puxi".

There's the line "Then weave a super big bundle up your network!" And, uh, I think Pipsqueak and Tootsie are coming on to each other in the playground. c.c "She could feel the fiery halitosis". "Her scream was a broom handle stuck in his mouth." But "my little muffin" translates!

Yeah, this is a good feeling. :D I'll have to do a reading of the translated version sometime.

Yeah, just skimming the first paragraph of it put through Google translate is kind of hilarious.

Rollin' like a big boss. But seriously, having your first translated be in Chinese instead of a Romance language or similar is quite impressive. :raritystarry:

That's kind of what I was thinking. :D

And now the broomstick imagery is forever stuck in my head, thanks Present :rainbowlaugh:

This is a magical day, Present. Treasure it.

"She could feel the fiery halitosis"

Fiery Halitosis would make an awesome name for a punk band, no? :rainbowdetermined2:

It's a funny feeling, reading the translated version before the original (Ms. Sharpener, I thought, referred to Cherilee, for example). Speaking of which:
"转笔刀小姐” -- Literally translates to "Ms. Pencil Sharpener" but most recently, in metropolitan areas, the "Ms." part (小姐) is now taken to mean "prostitute" :P
Another translation of Carrot Top's name could be "Tip of the Turnip", which sounds pretty cool.

Begorah, laddie, tip o' the turnip to ye! :V

In the translated version I was reading, Mrs. Sharpener was Ms. Pencil Knife. :B
