Making a blog post because I feel like it. · 9:00pm Jun 22nd, 2014
Now, I know maybe only 1 person will looks at this, but I don't care because I want to make a bloody post. I have been working on 2 fictions for a while now, both of them extremely different from one another. One is a concept I very much love, and has been done many times over, while the other is one that I have not seen done before, but is a story style that I very thoroughly enjoy.
Now, the first one is the standard pony roommate in college fiasco. It's fun, whimsical, and leaves for a lot of creative freedom. However, I like to make things realistic to a sense. When I write a character, I want them to feel like a real person, not some cardboard cutout that is unable to figure out things on their own, because everybody can do that. So basic knowledge of things can be extended onto understand more basic problems or topics. Piecing two things together to reach a single answer is also something a lot of people can do, but from what I have read, there is not many fictions that include such character traits. I understand making a dumb, or misunderstanding character, that's all fine and well, and I know there are probably a lot of fictions out there that already do this, but I have yet to read one with such additions. So I am trying to make the character feel alive, and narrate it as if that was how they are actually speaking, not as if they just happen to be some insanely good writer. Not only do I feel that this makes a much more personable character, but it also gives the writer a lot of creative liberties they can take to make a story more engaging.
The other one is a lot more serious. Quite serious, in fact that I am trying to keep as many pony related words and terms out, but keep it along the line of the pony universe. It takes place on a remote island that is inside the map of The Known World (link here), and follows a Dear Esther style approach to writing. This means that the chapters are short journal entries, rather than full blown chapters. They are poetic and cryptic, often having multiple stories that need to be pieced together in their own respect. They are hard to follow, but that's the point. They are supposed to be mysterious, and only when you piece everything together do you understand the multiple story lines in their entirety. It is very ambitious for me, as it tests my poetic and vocabulary skills to rather large amounts.
Anyways, those are my projects for right now, and I hope to start uploading some of them soon, but as of right now, I have nachos to destroy.
