Sixteenth Blog Post--"So I read a Virtual Novel..." · 12:18am Jun 20th, 2014
So I got bored yesterday and decided to try a Virtual Novel. I heard a lot about them from a friend, and I thought it might be fun to play one. So I got one on my phone and finished it in four hours. In my opinion I got the best ending, too. I saved my crew, my character found a love interest, and I deserted my post in an effort to keep a superweapon from the clutches of both powers in a war. My crew even cared enough to leave their old lives to follow me into the uncertain future. I was happy.
However, when I was about to replay it for another ending, something stopped me. The character I'd fallen in love with on my first play through would be there still, but her struggle, her past and her future would never be discovered without my interaction. Its a silly thing to think about, but by playing it again, I felt like I would be losing something precious.
So my question for those still reading this is a bit deep and requires some thought. If you were able to live your live in whatever way you chose, and live a great life of adventure, happiness and love, and be able to return to the point before your future occurred so you could choose a different path, would you be able to live a different life, knowing of the things that won't happen without you? Would you be able to leave that life behind, knowing exactly what that life has in store for you?
Answer or don't. This is purely for speculation.
