Obligatory Everfree Northwest Hype Blog · 4:47pm Jun 16th, 2014

Pre-registration for Everfree Northwest has officially closed as of yesterday; the only way in for those who haven't yet purchased a ticket is to buy badges at the door. The hype season for the biggest horsey convention outside of the Eastern time zone is on.

So what am I most excited about this year? Why, the writing track, of course! Same as last year—so nothing's changed just because I happen to be on it this year. Having been to five pony cons already, I can safely say that Everfree 2013 had by far the best fanfiction section of all of them. Bronycon tried to match them last year, and although their fanfiction offerings were far and away better than they were in 2012, they came up short. Both conventions have superb writing tracks, but Everfree's is the best in the fandom.

My experience at last year's convention was pretty good. Time not spent in autograph or main stage panel lines (trust me, they're brutal) was in some fanfiction event or other, be it one of the many panels or the chill outs. A lot of people went to those instead of the concert. I think I'll be doing a bit of both this year. The money saved from not going to Bronycon this year allowed me to afford one of those shiny Everfree sponsor badges, which allowed you to skip lines in 2012 and 2013. Hopefully that will be the same this year. Why did I spend over $300 extra? Well, my reasoning was that if I could just fast track lines, I'd save a few hours a day lining up, which could be spent at writing events.

Anyway, we have about eight panels lined up, plus a couple of workshops, a contest, two author chill outs, and more this year. I believe there are roughly a dozen panelists, too (each of us will be on three or four panels max), so there will be a lot of different opinions on each topic discussed. Plus, you wouldn't want me on a "how to write romance" panel, anyway.

So yeah, if you're at Everfree this year, it's definitely worth your while to spend a good chunk of the convention at the writing events. In the pony fandom, it doesn't get any better. And I'm not just saying that because I'm part of the writing track this year. :trollestia: I'm certainly hyped because this is by far my biggest con in terms of fandom participation. Aside from Bronycan last year, I've always been "just" a guest. Now I'm helping make the con more awesome.

I'm partly making this post as part of a promotion and partly because this is going to be such a huge convention for me.

At least one of you guys had better show up the con and say hi to me. You'll recognize me pretty easily because I'll probably be carrying my Rainbow Dash around and wearing 10 Pokemon badges on my convention lanyard.
