Long time, no see · 3:44am Jun 15th, 2014
So, I've basically dropped off of the face of the earth for the last year, and for that, I apologize. Life has been nothing short of crazy. I am now in South Korea, doing things I can't talk about. So there's that.
I wanted to take the time to let you all know that I have not forgotten about you, nor have I forgotten about A Dream That Wasn't. Quite the opposite, in fact. For the last few days, I've been re-reading and editing the story. I'm only up to chapter 4, but I will make my way through the entire story soon, and I will update every chapter so that they all flow smoothly from the first to the last. Over the year that I spent writing this story my style had changed rather dramatically, so I want to ensure that the style is consistent through the entire book.
A secondary reason I'm spending my time re-reading the story is to get back into it, and re-familiarize myself with all of the nuances of it so that I may continue it.
Yes, you read that correctly.
I have little else but time on my hands at this point, and I have had the urge to write nibbling at the corners of my mind for a while now. That being said, I have to dig out my notes on the original version of the story and the planed ending. At any rate, there will be a new chapter... eventually.
EDIT:
I made it to Chapter 11 tonight, so 1-11 are updated, and I feel really good about them. I just hit Chapter 12 and the massive amount of dialogue therein and have decided that I do not have enough sleep to deal with it. However, I should be able to get back on this in a few hours, after a serious power nap.
A Dream that Wasn't is a story any vet can relate to and is in my humble opinion the greatest example of military/slice of life out there. Dave's relationship with Joy is something we can all strive for and to be perfectly honest it inspires hope. Anyways, it's nice to know what's going on and I'm off to re-read it again. Best of luck in SK.
I am very glad to hear that you are alright, and back again, and that... best of all, there will be more of your wonderful story! Welcome back, AAB!
That's some great news there! I was beginning to fear that this wouldn't update further...
Gonna take some time to re-read the whole deal, but i'll prob give it a go after you finish editing.
2207842 I'm humbled by this. Thank you. I do my very best.
2208038 It's great to hear from you! You've been one the the bigger influences on the way this story has turned out, and I thank you for the time and thought you've put into your feedback over the years. All I can hope is that the Second portion of this book lives up to the expectations raised by the first.
2208164 I had feared that myself, for a time. But Just be on the lookout for another Blog post from me, because that will be when I announce that I've completed the editing and re-uploaded the updated versions.
Well it's great to hear that you're okay, I feared the worst
Best of luck with the editing, mate, I look forward to more
2208466 Absolutely, I'd feared the worst a time or two as well. As it is though, I am alive and just a bit over 33% completed with the editing. Possibly as early as the morning, I could have therest of it updated. Time will tell.
I missed you! Just got back on myself after an absence. My dad went to SK too, right around when I was born. He was a telecommunications expert through the army, all I know. I can't wait to get back into this. I miss the fact that I lost many a night just to read ADTW. I may start writing myself again. Also, you may forget, but I used to be ShyguyPinkiePie, just substitute a few letters with numbers.
Another not because of the Army, I'm on the verge of enlisting straight in, going ROTC Scholarship through Norwich University Vermont, Americas oldest military academy, or going to Wayne state and transferring to UoM. Either way, I will still be in the medical field. Anyway, best of luck and can't wait.
P.S. I heard the food there is great!
Well glad your back and ok.
And there was much rejoicing. seriously though, welcome back dude. Gonna have to go back and retread what you've changed, but I cannot wait to see where you take this beautifully crafted story. Seriously, keep up the excellent work, you have one of my two favorite fics on this site and I eagerly await the continuation of this story.
