That is sad in three ways, I think.
It's sad that someone thought doing something like that was a good idea. Whether desperate for attention, or trolling for lulz... in either case I feel sorry for the person. That is pathetic.
It's sad that people are calling for the faker's blood. Vengeance, blame, petty anger turned to demands for murder or suicide... these are behaviors that make me realize that Man is an animal not worth surviving as a species.
Lastly, it is sad because, fool that I am, I felt sorry for the faker, believing him with proper compassion. It is not sad that I cared, and felt compassion, nor is it sad that I was fooled - there is no shame in showing compassion, whatever the cause. It is sad that this is a world where people trick and deceive each other, whatever the reason.

Drama is entertaining--we're only human, we can't fight that urge. Well, we can, but for a lot of people, that would be detrimental.
Me? I have the best of both worlds. I sit back and see the fallacies all over the site; TgTf and all similar to him included. I see most of it, I just decide to keep myself quiet because a) I don't want to get involved and make things tedious for me and b) people would have pounced on me had I spoken up about my suspicions on TgTf. What does this get me? A bit of quiet entertainment without any way of criticizing me for anything.
Seriously, I say just let it happen. If things break rules, report it to the mods. Without drama--especially controversial drama--we would have no news, a lot less entertainment and the people who aren't involved but choose to sit back get punished. If people get involved and get burned, that's their problem (involved in the drama that is--everyone who fell for TgTf's bait does not fit that bill and I do feel sorry for all of you).
