    Happy New Year 2017

To my friends, followers, and people who stumbled upon my page,

I wish you all a Happy New Year from Texas.

Not much to say about the up coming year, all I can hope from the world of fanfiction is that I can finish up my current Kantai Collection ideas and maybe do some more MLP.

Project Corona Update · 1:09am May 31st, 2014

To my friends, followers, and people who stumbled upon my page,

Bit of an update from my summer project, as it stands I am one part away from making the tower operational and that is getting the OS which I will probably pick up next week when it goes on sale. But that doesn't mean Project Corona is done, I still need to get a keyboard (and possibly a new mouse), and most importantly a monitor.

Right now I am torn between getting one capable of doing 3D (in order to get most of the built in graphics chips on the mobo) or touch (in order to get the most out of the OS). So far I am leaning towards the touchscreen but I am still undecided, and advice would be appreciated. Brands I am looking at are Samsung, ASUS, and Dell.

And before anyone asks, I don't have a video card as I don't need one just yet.

If you're looking at a standup monitor, don't get touch. That gets old quick. If you're going for a remote monitor with a battery/moveable long power cable (IE, a tablet) You can't really get along without touch.

Also, looking down at your monitor might sound appealing, but try craning your neck down for a couple of hours a day. It gets old really quick. You will give yourself a terrible neck ache and it will become a pain in the neck (aheh.)

If you're really set on either one, go with 3D. Save the touch for an actual tablet.

Edit: Experience: 3 tablets and a nook later...

Seeing that I am 6' tall and currently sits hunched over a laptop, I completely under stand the point of elevating the monitor, and looking at the ones from Dell they do sit awfully low. Now to see if I find a mount that would work with my IKEA desk.

Any thing else?

You don't necessarily need one on a tall mount. A large enough monitor (I have a 32") will serve just fine and be at eye level even if you sit high in your chair or are tall. Also very nice for graphics work. Granted, the lower edge will still be pretty low, but that's not a terrible thing. The only thing down there is my taskbar.

Hmm...Look for something with more than one port type - preferably at least HDMI and DVI. RGB is nice, but a pretty rare connection to find nowadays on modern graphics cards. I'm not so certain about onboard mobo connectors though, but I would assume the same trend.

I've got HDMI, DVI, Display Port, and VGA on the Mobo, so I'm not exactly hurting for ports. Nearly every one I've seen has VGA at least.

Sizewise I'm looking at something between 22 and 30 inches, any bigger and it would extend past my desk.

Oh and for the touch thing, you do have a point, my plan is to get Win8.1 Pro as to get the remote desktop function. Working off my Dell Venue 8Pro isn't going to be an issue.

Wow. That's a lot of ports.

You should start up a port authority agency so you can collect import duties.

Aheh. Because ports are...

Being quiet now. :twilightblush:

Oh believe me the number of ports I saw on the back is great. Really the only ones I don't have are the ones for pretentious people... I mean Mac users.

Ok one thing, I've found a monitor that will work and fit in my price range; an ASUS VG248QE. My question for you is there any issues I should know about going from mini-Displayport to Displayport?

2162486

I'm not actually familiar with Display port -> Display Miniport. I've taken a look at some information for it, just now, actuallly. I'm more of a software gal these days than hardware, but it looks like it's good technology. I'm not aware of any issues with mini/normal compatibility issues, but from what I can see, it looks like they're going along with a similar style to USB - that is, an interconnect between a mini-version port and a maxi-version port shouldn't require a special adapter. Think USB -> USB Micro.

I hope so, I really don't want to shell out a fair chunk of change for a video-card that can do DP

From having windows 8 with a touch screen, i believe that while it is a gimmick, its worth it. I dont have a mouse, so when im not selecting something i use the touch screen quickly scroll and do lazy functions, or when i am actually not using the windows 7 version.

But, i would also add that with the uncertain future incentives of having a toich screen, i would have one with the chance that it may be more valuable to have it in the future.

I have a Win8.1 Tablet so really I'm not hurting on having a touch screen, and I do know what you mean about the interface. Still all the ones I've seen sit low and at my height that is asking for back issues.
