About Waning Moon Chapter Four · 6:11am May 26th, 2014
It's been a couple months since the last update, so I believe that I should offer an explanation. The next chapter...has not even been started yet.
I don't mean that I haven't put thought into it or put something on paper. I mean that as far as I'm concerned, it's far, far away from anything resembling something I'd be proud to post.
In fact, I know I've fallen behind on every project I have, as well as other projects I've been working on. I used to be able to keep a consistent update schedule, but ever since last year that's fallen by the wayside. I've taken on far more than I should have, and allowed myself to slip too far into my own malaise. I've driven good people away with my self-loathing. Just recently, I burned my last bridge with the Round Stable; I literally have nowhere else to go but Fimfiction now.
This is going to change. I will finish everything. I will wipe my slate clean and work on other things. But you good readers out there deserve an explanation, so here it is. I screwed up. I rushed into Waning Moon too quickly and without a solid plan. I knew where I wanted the story to go, but unlike MLA and BUB, a means to get there has not been forthcoming. I should have finished my other stories first, and then came back when things were clearer. Instead, I'm being pulled in a dozen different directions creatively, and while I used to be able to do this without issue, I'm not a teenager anymore. My life is more complex, my brain is older, and I have higher standards than I did back then.
Everything will be finished, however. Even if I have to pass a story or two to someone else, they will get done.
Sorry to have disappointed all of you.
Listen, it's okay, take all the time you need to get things done. It's understandable.
Dude, writing is like wine making... you can't rush it. It's not your fault that things haven't been going so well, it's the times we live in that make it difficult to keep up with updates etc
We still got your back
Take all the time you need.
If need be make cuts.
Even though I like reading your stories (at least those that I did read) I wouldn´t mind if you decided to axe them. Your personal well being is more important than your storys. Make life easier on yourself and please don´t give promises that only make it harder on you.
"You keep saying you let everypony down, but we all keep saying you didn't. You know who's disappointed in you, Spike? You. And only you can make it right with you again."
I did the exact same thing with one of my fics (Inferno). Thought I had a good starting point and that the fic would unfold nicely... then two chapters in I'd already written myself into a corner. Yay. Best thing to do: Write something else to clear your head, even a one-off, then look at the fic again and see if you still want to work on it. If you do, great, if not, put it on hiatus or cancel it. Just don't be afraid to take a huge sledgehammer to the story if need be, because trying to recover from an unwanted beginning is almost impossible. At least for me. Don't know about you real writers.
You didn't disappoint me. Sometimes we just rush things, thinking that it might be a good idea, sometimes we challenge ourselves to even fasten the pace.
It's fine. Take your time. You have all the time in the world.
I'm not gonna say that no-one's disappointed in you, because some jerk probably will be—even if that jerk is you. What I will say is that you shouldn't let that disappointment get to you. Use it to make your writing better. We know you can do it, even if it'll take you a while.
And if you can't? Well, that's alright too. The world won't end, we'll still be here to support you. Don't forget that.
We'll be waiting for it. :)
Do you, be any chance, need pre-readers or other help? Even just a wall idea to bounce things off?
Glad to see you motivated again! I'm sure all your fic issues will work out!
the gap between chapter 2 and 3 was 7 months and you haven't reached that yet. You're not late at all.
Man... even your blog's have the same heaviness that your stories have. I can kinda understand why you could drive people away. You always talk so heavy and overly mature.
It's fine. Believe me, that 'rushing in without a plan' thing is the very reason I don't have a single story up. My first attempt was a rush-in without a plan, and... I am of the opinion it was just awful, so I deleted it.
Don't worry too much about it, take your time, we can wait.

No rush. None at all.
It might not mean much, but I don't mind waiting at all. Take all the time you need. I think it's awesome to see you get motivated again.
Life sucks a lot of the times, but life takes precedence over writing fanfiction about tiny Technicolor horses; take however much time you need.
It seems every one of your fans agree on that last bit here
stop posting these every other month , we got the idea the first post......
