    Back from the dead

    I live!

So, that hiatus came out of fucking nowhere. There I was, geared up to finally get into the second half of the rewrites, and bam, suddenly I go blank for months. I can't express how sorry I am for that. But I'm back now, and the next chapter of The Soul's Savior is coming soon. I've got a large chunk of it done already!

    TSS Update

    Hey everyone. I'm not dead.

Still working on the next chapter. Everything happening in regards to my health has left me more than a little unmotivated. My mouth hurts all the time and eating is a damn nightmare. That kind of shit doesn't bode well for mental health, and I'm already not the most mentally sound of individuals.

    The Soul's Savior/Life Update

Hey y'all! So, progress on the next chapter is going pretty good. It shouldn't be too much longer until its out. So luckily this isn't another blog post announcing a delay. I just wanted to say that there definitely will be a new chapter soon and there isn't going to be another long-ass wait for the next one. I know I'm horrible about that.

Sonic Reviews: MLP:FiM Fan Fiction: "Facing Changes" by Sketchy Changeling · 8:03pm May 25th, 2014

I know that my last review was a story by the same author, but hey, I like the guy's stuff. He also requested me to do this, though I had already planned on it. So, here we have "Facing Changes", a story about a teenager who's dad marries Princess Celestia.

I know what you're thinking. But hold back those eye rolls, as this story takes a mildly cliched plot and does something good with it.

Link to story: Facing Changes by Sketchy Changeling.

I never thought that this day would come; the day that my dad would finally find someone to be with after being alone for so long. Not only that, but the one that he found, the one that he's decided to spend the rest of his life with, was none other than Princess Celestia.
I do feel happy for Dad, really I do, but I still didn't like the idea of my father getting remarried.
The thing is, though... I have no idea why I feel this way.

Also, I feel that I should point out that, while this story takes place in a similar Anthro world where Equestria has interacted with Earth, this story is in no way related to My Overbearing Aunt or any other story.

Anyway, let's get on with that plot.

Calvin Summers is getting married to Princess Celestia. Many people are envious and glad, but there's one person that feels very conflicted. His son, Devin. During the wedding, as Celestia and Calvin are stating their vows, Devin has some trouble focusing. A voice in his head, arguing with himself. "This woman thinks she can replace Mom? Never!" Despite Celestia's attempts to bond with Devin, he shoots her down, even going as far to yell at her after the wedding, thhough that's a little farther ahead.

On the way to the reception, Devin spaces out, until one of his aunts grabs his attention and mentions the fact that he and his dad are due to be crowned princes in the coming days. Naturally, Devin is freaked out. With the way people on Earth hound celebrities, how will the ponies of Equestria treat him? At the reception, seeing Calvin's smile while he's dancing with Celestia reminds Devin of why he's willing to put up with the changes that being Celestia's stepson will bring: He's doing because it makes his Dad happy.

Flashing forward a bit, Celestia and Calvin leave for their honeymoon. Devin makes a friend at school, and Luna is left to watch over the castle and Devin, who doesn't like Luna and vise versa. By this time, Devin and Calvin are crowned Princes.

Anyway, Luna and Devin argue, leading up to Luna insulting a stuffed bear that Devin's mom had made for him. Devin, in a fit of rage, pushes Luna out of his room. Celestia calls them both and the two slowly form a friendship.

Skipping ahead again, Devin wants to give Celestia a chance, but the voice in his head won't leave him alone, insisting that Celestia is evil and is out to replace his mom. Luna helps Devin overcome these feelings by showing Devin the manifestation of the voice in his dreams. Devin eventually defeats the voice, who disappears.

Celestia and Devin make up, and the two dance together at the school's parent night Dance.

Now, leet me get one thing clear: I like this story. It is well written, the characters are great and never once do I feel that a character is OOC. Devin is a great character as he is easy to relate to. I know I related to him, as I went through the same feelings when my Dad got remarried. Celestia in acing Changes differs from her counterpart in My Overbearing Aunt by displaying a more motherly side than in the previous story, and it's a nice change.

The writting is solid all throughout the story and the characters are great. Devin is easily related to, but his final "showdown" with the voice could have been handled a bit better.

I give "Facing Changes" by Sketchy Changeling a 8.0/10. Solid story, but not the best. Definitely in my top 10.
