Virtual Equestria (VE) is the name of the engine which me and my friends are developing. It is a text based rpg/sim engine. Using xml parsers, it will read in information defined by developers too create a text-based world. Think of a choose your own adventure fan fiction game!
The engine is almost entirely modular, things that developers will be able to define include:
-Characters
-NPCs (i.e. a neutral character that you can talk to, gather information from and receive tasks or quests from. This will also include vendors and stores.)
-Mane Characters (Good or Evil main characters. You will end up taking sides with on of them, juggling your relationships between the characters, who will you become Good or Evil? Being evil however will make you an enemy of the good characters and vice versa. I will note that the relationship aspect doesn't have boundaries*)
-Enemies (Enemy units or characters that you will have to fight regularly if you were to encounter them.)
-Locations
-Items
-Events
-[Main/Side] Quests (Events that occur after certain requirements are met, or a quest objective has been completed)
-Randomly Occurring Events (Events that have a chance of occurring whenever the player enters a new location.)
-Scenes (Think of a cut-scene or story that can be triggered various ways.)
-Actions
-Combat Actions
-Interaction Actions
-Location Actions
-Item Actions
The story will be completely told through what I call the events, when the player is not experiencing an event the player will simply have various options and commands at his disposal to manipulate and interact with the Equestrian world. While the player explores the world and such, the player will meet other ponies living their lives and they daily events that occur, the player will see situations develop and have to decide for themselves how to react to them, just think of it as real life, in a text-based rpg/sim game! Your decisions will affect everything in the game.
Development of this game is steady and continuous, if you are interested in following its development I post all news related to the project on my tumblr.
