While I tend to avoid doing reviews for popular fics, I decided to make an exception for this one, as this is a story that I feel needs much more recognition. This is the tale of Marcus Cortez, a human who also happens to be the adoptive nephew of Princess Celestia. He attends a Canterlot university for art, and there he meets Rarity and Octavia, and soon falls for the both of them.
"My name’s Marcus. Marcus Cortez. I’m currently a freshman at CUFTA. You don’t know what that means? Well, it stands for “Canterlot University for the Arts.” While it is a little unsettling to go to college in a completely different world from my own, and while being a human in a school full of mostly ponies is a little intimidating, I’m doing fine so far. I don’t have to worry about roommates, since I don’t live in a dorm. I live with my aunt.
Her name is Celestia. Princess Celestia."
The story starts one night as a couple, Maria and Hector, are relaxing in their living room. Hector is paranoid about becoming a father, as Maria is pregnant and constantly worries about her and the baby. Suddenly, a loud bang some tumbling and a thud all come from outside. Much to the protests of Hector, Maria forces him to go outside with her. They find none other than Princess Celestia after a spell gone wrong (Or right, as Celestia had meant to arrive on Earth, just not in that manner.). Celestia, slightly injured, is helped inside by the couple. Celestia is patched up, and makes a deal with Hector, who works with the town's mayor, to establish a connection between Earth and Equestria.
Flash forward a few years later. Earth and Equestria are now officially allies. Humans live in Equestria, ponies live on Earth and vise-versa. Pony magic has come to Earth, Human tech now has access to Equestria.
Seventeen years later, Marcus Cortez is celebrating his birthday, and surprise, Celestia has gotten him into his top choice college, Canterlot University for the Arts. However, his parents not having enough money to pay for him to live on campus, Celestia says that she will adopt Marcus has her nephew, which gives Marcusa place to stay for the next few years. His parents accept.
During his stay, Marcus finds a friend in Luna, and an enemy in Prince Blueblood.
On his first day of college, Marcus meets Rarity and her roommate Octavia, and the three become fast friends. Also, they exchange numbers to keep in touch. As the school year progresses, it becomes clear that Marcus has feelings for both of the mares, and not wanting to be a jerk, tries to sort out his feelings.
He's unable to, and confesses his attraction to the two mares, who agree to a semi-relationship, as in while none of them are in a relationship, Rarity and Octavia still flirt with and kiss Marcus, who does the same. Meanwhile, Marcus has also come to develop feelings for his adoptive aunt Luna, but he quickly shoves those feelings aside.
Eventually, as Hearth's Warming Eve draws near, Marcus decides to make a decision the day before.
Who does he choose? Well, I'm not going to spoil it here.
Honestly, I love this story. While the writing is a bit shaky in the beginning, it gets better over time, and the characters are amazingly written and developed. I was a semi-active commenter, voicing my opinions about the story and who I preferred Marcus to end up with (I guessed right!).
Long review short, you all should read this story. I give "My Overbearing Aunt" by Sketchy Changeling an 8.9/10. Positively one of my favorite stories but the beginning chapters' writing is a bit shaky, but it does get better towards the middle.
