Godzilla Update and Review · 4:10am May 17th, 2014
Heyo guys! Been a while since I've really done anything on here, but I figured you guys deserve an explanation as to the lack of Astro Monster goodness.
Firstly, been having a rough time at school for the past month or so. Free time is limited, and usually devoted to other projects. As much as I want to work on Astro Monster, the fact of the matter is that there always seems to be something I want to work on more.
Oh, that and Pokemon. I've been playing a lot of Pokemon.
And Titanfall.
And Skyrim.
Yeah, lots of gaming on my side lately.
On top of that, I don't really have the next chapter structured out. Or the whole first act for that matter. I got the second and third, but...
Yeah. So I have that to work out. I'll get back to work as soon as I can, so that's that.
Now the big news - Godzilla!
Saw the film yesterday night at an early 8PM screening. Full house, lots of enthusiastic people there.
My thoughts?
I F***ing loved it!
I'm avoiding spoilers, but here's the basic rundown of my thoughts on the film.
Almost everything was done perfectly for a Godzilla film. The tone was perfect. Godzilla was perfect. The MUTOs were perfect. Bryan Cranston was perfect.
BUT.
There always is a little something something to ruin the perfection, isn't there? In this case, three things come to ming.
The first is Aaron Taylor-Johnson. The problem is...well, he's only an okay actor. Mediocre at best. And when compared to Bryan Cranston? Well... He kinda falls apart.
Second is the first couple fights are completely BS'd. The build-up is perfect, and just when the fight's about to start? Cut to the next day. I blame budget for this one.
Lastly, the military is f***ing STUPID. There is one major scene that emphasizes this. I won't clarify for reasons of possibru spoilers, but dayum. Even for a kaiju film, they're STUPID.
Final verdict? Well, although these things did bother me, not one got in the way of my enjoyment of the film. So, I'm happy to give this film:
And a Badass Seal of Aprroval!
Now, go give Legendary Pictures your money. Seriously, what are you waiting for? GO!
