Season Four Finale, Twilight's Castle. · 7:04pm May 15th, 2014
I apologize for how long this took me to make, but I am done with finals so I have more time for you guys.
Okay, now starting this episode was Twilight complaining that she doesn't have a really big role to play in the kingdom. This is a problem a lot of Bronies have pondered, some, like myself, had even come to the right answer, and in the end it all makes sense. Twilight complains to her mentor, almost whines, about this, and with the visit from the Duke and Douches of Maretonia all Twilight had to do was smile and wave.
Then, right after the important ponies go home, never to be seen again, Twilight and the three other princesses have a song. Luna sings "Whoo hoo!," but the song in general is bland and forgettable, but it gets its job done, telling us that Twilight's time will come when she needs to play her part.
Then we go to the... how do I say this... out of nowhere scene. Tirek, out new villain, is seen with a hood over his head and a small defenseless body. A unicorn pony bumps into him and he literally sucks the magic right out of the bystander. He even took his cutie mark! Out of all the villains, this man (Or centaur for those nitpicky people?) is literally the most terrifying. You need to hide your OC's, I know I'll throw Eclipse into a closet, and keep them away if you don't want their life to be literally sucked out of their bodies.
So, here is my list of the main villains from weakest to broken.
Sombra
Nightmare Moon
Chrysalis
Discord
Tirek
Am I missing one??? Hmm, I don't think so, but this will lead me to my next point. Discord. Is he in character? And for that matter, is he a plot hole?
We all know Discord as Fluttershy's bitch... I mean the avatar of Chaos. He sees things no one will understand. Throughout the series he's been known to see outside the box... for that matter he lives outside the box. Pinkie owns the box and Discord lives outside it seeing almost everything there is to see. That's why he knew the weaknesses of the Mane six back in season two, that's why he could outsmart Fluttershy in season three, but he has changed. Instead of using his god like powers for evil. he uses them to nudge Twilight in the right direction. This is no different in this episode as he points to the key episodes where Twilight's friends got their keys, but why would he not see Tirek's betrayal? And if Discord and Tirek were in cahoots, why didn't he tell him about Twilight's princesshood? The latter could be marked off as forgetfulness, but the former is unforgivable. He understands that he fucked up, but the fact that he didn't see it coming is not only out of character but is also a plot hole.
Speaking of plot holes, why did Twilight teleport to her house when Tirek could blast it to smithereens? Okay that's not really a plot hole, but I need to transition to the epic fight somehow?
The fight was clear out of the blue, it fit well but no one saw it coming. This fight between Twilight and Tirek has been compared to DragonBall Z, and with the lasers I can see why. The awesome effects of all four alicorns were great, and only proves that Celestia can be defeated.
By giving Twilight all of the magic that the Celestia, Luna and Cadence held, it showed just how powerful Tirek is. It also brings up a subtle detail that not everyone can see. Celestia and Luna are beatable. As we saw in canterlot wedding, the ruler of the entire kingdom isn't invincible, they are invaluable, but not invincible. This makes the world of equestria all the more appealing, and the show soo good.
I won't keep you here forever so I'll end this part with one word. Continuity
There is so much of it in this episode that I can't think of it all, but one thing I do remember is the reason Tirek was released from his cell. Cerberus, the guard dog for hell left his post back in "it's about time" and I know the staff pulled that out of its ass, but it works and I appreciate the effort and thought put into Tirek's release.
There were two things I didn't like in this episode, not including the Discord plot hole, and they are the new toys Hasbro's going to release soon. I agree with the box, but putting toys into a finale makes me sad, not to mention they look ugly.
The second is Twilight's castle. I have no problem with it existing, but the way it looks is bad.
Think about it, whenever the sun comes up, it will reflect off of the crystal in Twilight's castle and wake everypony up. That and it's an eye sore, outshining the entire city as well as blinding them. That and it's gaudy.
This episode is like the canterlot wedding in it breaks the mold with Girl cartoons. We wouldn't have a demon sending our beloved Twilight to the depths of hell before MLP, and we would never have a dragonball Z fight scene. This is why I love My Little Pony. It breaks the mold for all we know and changes gender roles. That and it's fucking adorable.
For memorableness, I give this episode a 9 out of 10
For enjoyment I give this episode an 8 out of 10.
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable episode, one that I will be coming back to over the long hiatus.
Now, Update.
I have a lot more time now that I am finished with school, so I expect to finish the next chapter of Strange Discovery in the next week. I still have a bit more to go, but with all this time I see myself finishing.
Please, if you want to preread tell me! I won't bite and I need opinions before I post it, but like I said a while back, I will post the chapter a week after I finish it.
Thank you all very much
