Thanks to WikiHow- I now how I want to set up the knighting ceremony and it'll be trippy. · 3:45am May 15th, 2014
I always have a trippy chapter and finding a crossover where it doesn't make me look deranged for trying it is something. This'll be a long chapter because each "promise bolded below will have its own section of mental trials. Of course I might take out one or two because there seems to be no organized relion akin to a Church in Equestria- outside of hints in Hearts and Hooves Day that there are funerals. But canon sightings of a church? Nopers. And favorite part of this? Finding armor- probably going to base its description over medieval horse armor- or just look at how the Thestral Lunar Guards are suited up.
"The Knighting Ceremony"
Squires were usually invested as knights during one of the great feasts or holidays, like Christmas or Easter. Sometimes the ceremony took place on another special occasion, such as the wedding of a noble or royal. The king, nobles, knights and clergy or the squire's father (if he were a knight) could confer knighthood.
Nah, I'll take that out. I don't see knighthood happening often in the world of MLP. Aristocracy and nobility? Yeah Canterlot has those ponies in spades. Actual knight-commanders of the Royal/ Lunar Guards? Heck no. I could see Fancy Pants as a knight. Heck Shining Armor is probably by season 4 like a knight twice over. But knighthood in my story is a very rare and abnormal event because the idea that the homelands of Equestria ever being full out attacked is preposterous- with Discord's return a few weeks prior to Chapter 1- it starts to be taken a bit more seriously. Celestia did too good a job at protecting her ponies.
So yeah- knighting ceremony will be a very important part for Luna to show that she cares and will have flashbacks as to how Applejack got her whole crush on Luna because someone gave me that idea from a comment that "pretty much said: this pairing doesn't work. And that the whole Twilight and AJ scene should have been in a separate chapter."
First of all, that "separate chapter was a lead in so I wouldn't just throw people into the story because whenever I write romance I get the haters that either say it is either too rushed or too slow- more say "too rushed" so I wrote it that way. Also I am sorry that some people's stories get you in a tizzy but I personally didn't like the Big Mac and Luna pairing cause I thought that was just overdone for the most part and somehow were decently liked.
So I wrote this as a same sex ship with similar themes over the LunaMac ship except the crossover part- that was my own "flair" I wrote this because I thought that Aj's whole Everymare persona would make Luna have character development and be something different than the glut of shipping stories that do slice of life stuff. I even planned on a CadanceJack fic- might still do it years from now once this multistory arc that I see happening with Applejack and Luna. I hae it all planned out to where they'll visit and what they'll do in my head for the next three or five chapter of this. And someone just ruins my whole day with "this pairing sucks."
Just something on my mind for the last few hours. I'll get over it. Just sucks when I spent a good thirty plus hours even polishing the story enough to publish. No worries though- no panic attacks for me. I got too much fun for that.
Next chapter might take a while- this might get all Robert Frost "Two paths diverged. . ." up in here and I do almost have 800-900 words in a Celestia and Luna calm scene. So next'll be some AJ scenes, the ceremony which, if lucky, will add a lot of pages on to here. And then the training which will come after. As I said, this will take a while.
The knighting ceremony usually involved a ritual bath on the eve of the ceremony (the would-be knight usually dressed in white). Then an all-night prayer vigil would begin, sometimes with the squire's arms on the altar. The kneeling squire would swear an oath, which included some of the following points:
•He would always defend a lady.
•He would speak only the truth.
•He would be loyal to his lord.
•He would be devoted to the church.
•He would be charitable and defend the poor and helpless.
•He would be brave.
•When on a quest, he would remove his armor and arms only while sleeping.
•He would never avoid dangerous paths out of fear.
•He would be on time for any engagement of arms, like a battle or tournament.
•Upon returning to his home or lord's court from an adventure, he would always tell of his escapades.
•If taken prisoner, he would give up his arms and horse to his opponent and not fight the opponent again without the opponent's consent.
•He would fight only one-on-one against an opponent.
Then the master of the ceremony would dub the new knight on the shoulders with a sword. The knight would then dress in armor, receive his sword, mount his horse and participate in some martial games to demonstrate his skills as part of the celebration. (Pount where Fleur steps in as blademaster. I might take some Elder Scrolls ideas on The Blades- might not. Probably take more from Game of Thrones with her style of fighting. Let's just say that the Fleur I am making will be not the best at fighting fair.
In times of war, a squire who had demonstrated exceptional bravery in battle could be knighted on the battlefield by another knight.
With knighthood came several privileges. Knights obtained the title "sir." They could own land, hire soldiers to defend it and dispense justice over the soldiers and those living on the land. They -- and their horses -- could wear armor in battle (armor was expensive, so only knights could afford it). During feasts, banquets and dinners, knights had places at the high table, where lords and royals ate. They could also bear arms inside a church because they were defenders of God and the church.
In times of war, knights were called to arms by their lords or by the king. They led foot soldiers and archers into battle, much like modern officers do with enlisted men. During peacetime, knights managed their estates, dispensed justice, trained for battle and participated in tournaments. We'll learn about tournaments on the next page.
There, took out all mention of religion and horses cause horses riding horses is weird.
