The Library of Discord - Esperanto Translation · 2:33pm May 7th, 2014

Hi everyone!

So the most wonderful thing ever happened! The awesome Amphicoelias has started to translate "The Library of Discord" into Esperanto!

Now most of you are probably scratching your head wondering what "Esperanto" is. Esperanto is a constructed language. It is a language that was designed from the ground up to be easy to learn. There are no exceptions to rules in Esperanto. That means that words are pronounced exactly the way they are spelled. And the rules are easy to follow. For example, all nouns end in "-o," all adjectives end in "-a," and all opposite words can be made into opposites by adding the prefix "mal-" in front of it.

Esperanto is what happens when one intelligent person is tasked with constructing a language instead of how natural languages "evolve" over time with strange rules and word patterns. I fell in love with the idea of Esperanto by listening to this 99% invisible episode on the topic. I really love this language. I’m ecstatic that my story will be the first MLP fanfic to be translated into it.

Amphicoelias has already finished translating the prologue of the story, which can be read over on this google doc .

That's pretty cool! And now I'm really interested in this language. Maybe I'll look it up and try it out... when I find some time. :twilightsheepish: I have so much to do now that I barely find any time to write anymore. (It was a bad idea to have 6 incomplete adventure-type long-shots. :facehoof:)

Mi scipovas paroli la lingvon internacian Esperanto. ¿Ĉu vi komprenas min? Mi skribas Esperante esperante ke vi povu kompreni min. ;-)

You might remember be as the one who explained that hashes are terrible for encryption, but great for data-integrity. I speak Esperantically.

I got so distracted by hashes that I forgot a grammar-error. Esperanto reminded me:

You get confused about pronoun-cases with coordinating conjunctions:

I, we, he, and she are for the subject. Me, us, him, her are for the objects. When you use coordinating conjunctions like and, but, et cetera, you always use the subject.. This is wrong:

If it is the subject, it is still the subject. If it is the object, it is always the object:

FlutterShy and I like carrots.

Animals like FlutterShy and her.

If thou wilt ever write Princess Luna, I can teach thee how to write how Princess Luna speaketh.

Hey! I know this is an old post, but did the fic translation ever get finished...? :raritystarry:

It's linked to on this Wikipedia page about Esperanto Fanfiction: https://eo.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fanatikfikcio

EDIT: Nevermind!!! A quick search found it, I didn't realize it was just hidden underneath the "read more" button on the main fic info :pinkiecrazy:

Ho mia dio! Mi estas tre fiera, ke vi ricevis tradukon por via rakonto!

Aliflanke, ĉu vi parolas Esperanton? Mi povas, ĉar kial ne? Esperanto estas bonan lingvon, paroli. Simple legu mian bion-- en la anglan, ĝi signifas: "To speak only one language is to use only one color of paint. The language of friendship is not words but meanings." Mi certas, ke vi ne sciis, ĉu ne? Aliflanke, ĉu mi devus fondi grupon por Esperantistoj? Mi certas, ke ĝi estus tre bonan adicion por Fimfikcio.

Kio vi pensas?
