Gore Tag: Yay or Neigh? · 8:12pm May 2nd, 2014
So I've been thinking on the current genre settings I've listed for Iron Hearts, and that got me to wondering:
Exactly how bloody does a story have to be before it warrants a "Gore" warning?
A quick glance around the 40K fic group, and it's pretty obvious that Gore tags are very common in the genre, but I didn't feel before that Iron Hearts really warranted one. Like the Dark tag, I felt that it would misrepresent the story. Certainly there's blood and dark moments in IH, but the former is referred to obliquely or not at all during the fighting while the latter isn't taken seriously. I thought that a gore story would have to present the blood and guts more graphically, or make them a narrative focus in order to live up to the warning.
Then I considered that rather than a completely objective analysis of the story content, perhaps it would be more appropriate to compare it to MLP specifically and its style of "violence".
From that perspective Iron Hearts TOTALLY deserves a Gore tag simply by virtue of some characters possessing and using boltguns and chainswords. The implied imagery is probably sufficient.
So I'm looking for some input on this. I want the story description to be as accurate as possible.
I don't think the story needs a gore tag unless it is ponies that get's shot to pieces, smashed, burned etc [spoiler for those who hasn't read the entire story yet] with exeption for Big Mac, but he didn't die becuase he is the badass that he is
I wouldn't say it does, no.
