"What the fuck is Day Court?" or "Stop subscribing to the Business Factory School of Writing."

So for a while now something's been bugging me about how you fuckers write, and I've been guilty of it, too. I call it the "Business Factory School of Writing" after Vincent Adultman from Bojack Horseman. Don't know what I'm talking about? Then shame on you, and take a gander:

Don't tell me your story in your story description

People will only read the first two sentences of your description unless they're damn good sentences, so make sure they're damn good sentences. Explaining the fine details of your story will be boring because walls of text are shit and there won't be any context; your story description is not an appropriate place to dump exposition. Explain in broad, punchy terms what people will find in your

So apparently The Giver is being turned into a movie... · 1:28am Apr 27th, 2014

I don't know how I feel about this. Presuming you've read the book, do you remember the twist with the thrown apple? Or perhaps it was a ball, I don't remember exactly what it was, not really the point. Anyway, that twist changes the entire way you view their world and the way it works in your mind's eye by peeling away your presumptions. The trailer appears to be showing scenes before and after the twist is revealed, yet there doesn't appear to be any effort to demonstrate the twist in the visual medium in a satisfying way. This is somewhat worrying to me because that twist is the entire reason the book is worth reading.

It'd have been trivial to do this in a satisfying way 70 years ago. Hell, it WAS done 70 years ago, but I don't know how well it can be done today. This twist is the exact reason I didn't expect anyone to try to adapt this story into film.

If you comment, don't spoil the goddamn twist.

"They gave him their memories...he gave them hot lead!" *BLAM BLAM BLAM*

I really hated the book, but I'm afraid they will ruin it with the movie for people who DID like it.

My 6th grade science teacher read us this book and I barely remember a thing. It was two years ago and I can't remember things from that long ago that well. :derpytongue2: As for the movie, Jeff Bridges reminds me of John Hurt for some reason… (I'm sorry I had to bring Doctor Who into this. :fluttershyouch:)

I hope they don't screw up this movie. Then again, knowing Hollywood, they'll find several ways to screw it up. :ajsleepy: They better not screw it up too much otherwise I will flip out once I'm alone. Then again… :facehoof: IT BETTER BE GOOD! :twilightangry2:
