Just a normal Texan brony here. I play guitar, bass, go to college classes for a degree in music, and read fanfiction with friends on skype/teamspeak.

Concerning disabilities · 1:29am May 23rd, 2012

Seems strange that I'm releasing two blog posts in one day, but I need to get something off of my chest...

Give this fanfic a quick glance. If you'll notice, the grammar and spelling is atrocious. The author seems to have a certain crutch, though. See, he/she claims: "i've got a disable that when i write some down my brain missis words out or miss spell them and i wont relise it until its too late" (quoted from my user page).

Sounds reasonable enough.

Here's the problem: You're letting your disability get to the best of you in a way that you cannot function in a normal way. I don't advise this, because you're only hurting yourself, and perhaps even those around you. Like an addiction or bad habit, you need to rehabilitate yourself, or be rehabilitated, into making that disability go away or even turn it into an advantage.

Wanna know another secret? I'm diagnosed with Asperger's Syndrome and have a slight Disgraphia as well. Having Asperger's has nothing to do with writing fanfiction per say, but I have struggled with it. I've had trouble functioning in a social environment, in a way that makes me seem timid, shy, or even downright creepy to other people. Thankfully I've been able to overcome this mental disease and making it into nothing more than a personality quirk (though I'm still quite shy or quiet in conversation). As for the Disgraphia, sure my hand-writing and drawing skills are mediocre at best, but since technology has made it so that you don't have to learn cursive in school anymore, I think I can disregard that as apocryphal for now.

So don't let your disability get to the best of you, and instead find a way to help improve your writing or whatever is stopping you from functioning like a regular human being. Pre-readers and spellcheckers would be perfect for this situation, so I highly recommend them.

And if you're just bullshitting with the whole disability card, Mr./Ms. "batman0889", then I don't regret writing this blog post. Trolling is a art after all, unless you're not actually a troll, then otherwise fuck off and stop being lazy.
