In Which MyHobby Seals a Plot Hole and Confronts his Own Fallibility · 12:17am Apr 13th, 2014
I realized that I had a bit of a flub in the latest chapter of Blueblood's Ascension Part III. It has been fixed in the most time-honored and stealthy of manners: an Edit.
The plothole was that somehow, someway, Luna and Bluebones were discussing that they must defeat Shadowfright, when it had been previously established that nopony (besides the Nightmares) knows that Shadowfright is even still alive.
I felt a little thick when I realized it, I did.
Original:
Bluebones shuffled his legs. “This ain’t your fault, Luna.”
“How can it not be?” she asked. “The Nightmares turned to me for help.”
“And these are a whole ’nother set than the ones wot turned you into Nightmare Moon.” He stomped a hoof quietly, so as not to wake his grandson. “Far as oi’m concerned, take out Shadowfright an’ your slate is clean.”
“It won’t be that simple,” Luna said.
“O’ course not!” Bluebones shifted his cloak to cover his rear legs. “But the idea is.”
He dipped his nose towards the floor. “Soon as Shadowfright’s defeated, this whole thing’ll quiet down.”
Luna bit her lip. “I hope so, for Blueblood’s sake.”

“It wasn’t that simple,” Luna said.
“O’ course not!” Bluebones shifted his cloak to cover his rear legs. “But those're the bare bones of it.”
He dipped his nose towards the floor. “After Blueblood's been the warden for a while, this whole thing’ll quiet down.”
Luna bit her lip. “I hope so, for his sake.”
As another note, it's funny how easy it is to jig dialogue around to keep the flow of the conversation going, while simultaneously changing what's being said. They even hit almost exactly the same beats. It's weird, but it fits.
I'm terribly sorry about the lack of internal consistency in this manner.

I'll have you know that said noise is some of my favorite noise.
It's the first of a series, like I mentioned in the story's author's notes. We haven't seen the last of Ponyville's Fire Brigade!
