I Am Now An Award-Winning Writer · 1:40am Apr 12th, 2014

First, I'd like to apologize for the lack of content updates. I've been hard at work at my university homework, which is all writing, since I'm a creative writing major. Another reason beyond this is that my two primary projects this semester are making progress in drafting my second novel, which is non-pony, and a two-parter MLP television script, which can't really be posted outside of a blog post. Don't worry--I will post it when I have written another draft or two.

By some manner of miracles, my writerly endeavours did not go unnoticed. Every year, the writing department issues a few awards, which are determined by the professors, and I was selected as the recipient of the Meadowlarks Award in Fiction--the most prestigious writing award in the school! Winning $1,000 on top of it is really awesome, too.

I still don't fully believe that this has happened, especially after all three of my submissions to the school's annual literary magazine were rejected.

By the way, now that school is winding down for the summer, I will be able to produce more Literature Pie videos, and perhaps some pony fiction, though that will be on the back burner, as my goal for the summer is to complete the first draft of my non-pony work.

Congratulations! That's a heck of an award.

I might caution you on posting material like this, especially the check in high resolution. Also, if it's such great news, how come you waited a month and a half to tell us?

They grow up so fast. I feel that song coming on...

Well, not quite, but you know what I mean. :raritywink:

Thanks! They were determined then, but not handed out until last night. I did not receive a letter notifying me of this, so I was not in attendance at the magazine launch and award ceremony. Because of this, I only found out this afternoon. I sat down in class today, the final class of my genre fiction workshop, preparing my presentation reading for portfolio submission/free pizza day, and my professor walks in. She sits down and informs me that I won a scholarship.

Also, I figured it would be fine to post this, since I blacked out my address. My full name is really easy to find.

This is sick, dude! :pinkiehappy:
I knew you were always a great writer.

Just one more award, four more honours lists, and two years at the school newspaper to catch up with you. :trollestia: It won't happen, but I can dream!

Congrats on the award! It is good to see an excellent writer officially recognized.

Awesome stuff, Gary! Congratulations! :pinkiehappy:

Well, I guess now all you need to do is... go forth and conquer the writing community with an iron hoof...

... Please don't hurt us. :fluttercry:

Thanks so much, guys! If anything, this is a sign that I need to keep pushing forward. This will be an interesting summer.

2012735 I wish to read the story for which you got this award.

It's actually not for any one story. As far as I understand it, at some time around February every year, all of the professors in the writing department provide a list of students they feel deserve awards in what fields they teach. Students whose names show up enough times get picked.

I've only had about three projects this academic year: my second novel, the script adaptation of Be Like Her, and a full two-part pony episode. The two-parter is still undergoing revisions.

Very nice, congratulations! You deserve it!
