A Spirited Denunciation of "Marefriend" As an Inferior Term Demarcating Romantic Love Status · 6:56pm Dec 21st, 2011
So, you want to ship some ponies. This is completely understandable. Shipping ponies is adorable. But after you've successfully gotten your two ponies together (and for our purposes today, let us assume that you've shipped two female ponies, as that's demographically most common) ... what do your successfully-shipped ponies call one another? Lover? Gal pal? Significant other? Apple of my eye?
Well, maybe only Applejack would use that last one.
The solution the fandom has seemed to have come up with is "marefriend." I disapprove of this solution. I am here today to speak to you regarding the sources of my disapproval and to propose a much more pleasing alternative.
To wit:
filly:girl::mare:woman
ERGO:
mare:woman::marefriend:womanfriend
This is clunky and makes kittens cry. HOWEVER:
filly:girl::fillyfriend:girlfriend
This is infinitely more pleasing. I highly recomend the adoption of "fillyfriend" into wider fandom usage.
