Babscon Woes. · 5:23am Apr 8th, 2014
So with the upcoming trip to BABSCon, you would think that I would be excited, but instead, I've had a feeling of pure dread, will I have enough money, will my grandmother approve of the person I am riding with, will I be able to enjoy myself knowing that I have to call my grandmother every day?
Lots of what iffs, and not once have I decided to cancel out on this once in a lifetime trip.
If I was an artist, I would be doing commissions, if I had things to sell, this is when I would be doing it. I have none of these things. Instead, I have been going around asking for loans, and I now have enough to ensure my ride, and some emergency money besides.
Am I going to beg here? No. Rather I'm just going to use this post to vent slightly at my troubles. It bothers me to no end to know that something that my mother was okay with, is so far from okay to my grandmother that I have to write down a long list of phone numbers for her, and that I have to search hard to find out who the actual driver is (from LA area to SF carpool) And that she is wanting to meet this person, and if he fails to meet her approval, (whatever it would be that does it) then she will just straight up tell me, "NO" and I'll be stuck here, without going to the only bright spot I've been looking forward to for months.
Anyway, I don't know. I can't afford a bus, or I would do it. I can't drive my car because it needs tags and work done to it, and renting a car or train is far too expensive.
Maybe, hopefully things will work out. Maybe I'll even come up with some extra money and be able to just take a bus, I don't know where I'll get that money, but I have about two weeks from now to do it. Wish me luck, and to those that either lent, or gifted me any cash, I thank you, and I will not name names to protect the innocent.
Fallback plan: Greyhound would be somewhere between $70 and $95 round-trip, though I hope it doesn't come to that. Carpooling would be a much more pleasant experience and extend your con a little bit.
Driving yourself wouldn't save you any money, even if the tags weren't a problem. Round trip would be three tanks of gas.
