Query: Tip Jar? · 1:18am Apr 8th, 2014
I've been thinking of adding a tip jar to my user page. Before you ask, no, I'm not in dire financial straits at the moment, though like most people, I could certainly use a bit more breathing room. This isn't about trying to pay the bills; I've got something else in mind.
You see, ever since Petriculture took off in this community, I've been seriously considering the possibility that there may be quite a few folks who would be willing to pay for original fiction by me, and I've had several story ideas rolling around in my head for years (in some cases, more than a decade). The thing is, while I'm quite certain that some of you would be willing to pay actual money to read these stories, I have no way of knowing just how many people would (or, depending on your situation, could) do so, nor how much money my readers would/could pay for them. A tip jar, while obviously imperfect, would at least provide a very rough estimation of both.
In any case, I'd like to hear your opinions on the matter.
Interesting, what's your original stuff about?
I personally think tip jars are in general quite reasonable. However, I haven't really seen them around here, and I wonder if having a tip jar crosses the line into taking money from ye olde copyright holder. Might want to check with the site admins to make sure it's not against policy. No need to get anyone irate over something of relatively low importance.
Hmmm...I'll wait and see. If your idea's successful maybe I'll put one up too.
Patreon?
*has no idea how it works, but everyone seems to be talking about it*
1991281 +1 for Patreon.
I've only used the platform as a patron myself but that side of things works nice and easy. As for the artist side you could check with Tommy Oliver or Digibro, they've been on Patreon for a while.
1990702 I'm f8rly cert8n that Wanderer D has a tip jar, so I don't think the admins would have anything to stand on while yelling at Kwakerjack, thus m8king a pretty unconvincing argument.
