So...Amy Keating Rogers is best writer.
Seriously this was an amazing episode. While the main lesson was obvious enough, it was extremely well delivered, with a ton of gags (seriously, bit with Rainbow on the stool was hilarious) but also more subtlety than might seem at first glance. For example, the differentiation between knowing facts and being smart. Since those aren't the same at all.
Beyond the explicit worldbuilding (wonderbolt and EUP Guard history!), we saw lots of things that many writers forget. Twilight constantly doing teleports and similar without thinking, but being skittish about landing on a cloud. The fact that the cloud turned stormy because of Rainbow's bad mood. And I think the improved writing translates into things like the amazing facial expressions and really fun camera angles and tricks that we see.
So yeah, great episode.
I've actually only seen one review of the episode where the reviewer said they didn't like it.
So I wasn't the only one enjoying the shit out of this episode?
In all honesty, from my limited knowledge of how to make an episode like this, I think this episode is the best so far when it comes to both how it's animated (just look at the flight scene!) but also in world building, gag (the orchestra-thing) and also subtle stuff like... Yeah, what you mentioned.
An awesome peisode!
Plus, Pinkie Pie rap. I mean really, who saw that coming?

Goddd that was the best.
The only thing I didn't like about the episode was the rap. Not because it was bad (apart from the intentional low quality look, which did fit that part very well), but rather because I don't like rap music at all. I greatly enjoyed all the rest, and the world building felt like a late Christmas present
(And the stool rocking making a military anthem, which I believe was the Wonderbolts theme, made that scene even more fantastic I'm going to now hunt down that scene to put on my tablet for later perusal )
I'm starting to wonder if I was the only one that though the fact Celestia's favorite flight pattern is the Icaranian Sun Salutation — specially taking into account what Rarity did in Sonic Rainboom — funny, though...
loved it
I am convinced that the Luna and Celestia costumes come from the 'Do Not Inventory' closet in Twilight's room, and I refuse to let anyone tell me otherwise.
The shots looking down at the ground, watching their shadows move across the landscape were just fantastic, though. The animation team went nuts with this one, and it was great.
I like how we now have a canonical frame of reference to passing time..

Aw, c'mon. That's whicki-whicki-whack, yo. M.C Pink be both dope and fly.
And if you can't trust a 36 year old white dude from rural Washington State on that, who can you trust?

Musical preference, not much to do about it. The same way I liked the ending of Pinkie Pride less than I should because I didn't actually like the Make a Wish song, despite loving every other song in the episode.
