Cadance of Cloudsdale (so far) now in Spanish!

Thanks to the generous SPANIARD KIWI, the text of Cadance of Cloudsdale so far is now in Spanish! Mr. Kiwi has done a tremendous amount of work translating many of my stories into Spanish, but this goes above and beyond. If you're curious, you may visit the project so far here at this

    Happy Cadance Day 2024!

Things feel a bit subdued today, due to the coincidence of Valentine's Day and Ash Wednesday through a quirk of the liturgical calendar. It is somewhat difficult to juxtapose the splash of corporate-encouraged love with the festival that literally exists to remind us of our mortality. The pink of Valentine's washes against the purple of Lent. So I'm in a pensive mood, more so than usual on this

    Ciderfest is a wrap!

Just got home from PVCF and it was an amazing con experience! The minific-based ARG that circulated around the con the whole weekend was high-concept, and I was worried about engagement, but everyone seemed to really get into searching out the hard-to-find stories concealed around the convention hall (in places as obscure as "the desktop wallpaper on one of the monitors in the video game room,

My Warped Perception of Reality · 3:49am Apr 4th, 2014

So I was at McDonald's today, and lo and behold, I saw in a little stand-up display a variety of little plastic Pony toys available with your Happy Meal purchase.

Out of curiosity, I then looked in the other half of the display, and saw toys from the Skylanders franchise.

My first actual thought, and I am totally not joking about this, was, "Huh, don't they usually have one of the two be girls' toys?"

FOR LIKE A HALF A SECOND I ACTUALLY THOUGHT THIS THING.

I need help.

Funnily enough, I thought the same thing after I read the first two paragraphs.

I blame the instance of Pinkie Pie who's taken up semi-permanent residence in my brain. What's your excuse?

Wait, there's a problem with that? :trollestia:

Ugh, Skylanders. Remember when Spyro was good, and had his own game series?

1980512
Different pink pony, same scenario.

1980512 My excuse is that I'm making a mould out of my Lyra vinyl, pouring plastique explosives in the mould, shoving a detonator up its... anyways, and detonating it this summer, because 1: it is as a parody of that one plushie (we all know the one), and 2: because ponies are BADASS!

I lol'd.

I do that ALL the time!
Shit, I wear my Spike hoodie to work and everyone's all, "Aww, it's a dinosaur!" And my first reaction is: "It's Spike the Dragon from MLP, and he's more man than any dinosaur!":moustache:

And then I remember I'm wearing a sweatshirt advertising a girl's show character.:unsuresweetie:

And yet, I still can't find it in me to care!
:rainbowlaugh:
~Dash The Stampede

I saw the pony figures on the interwebs. If I ever wanted to eat a happy meal again I would be all over that, but as it stands...

Although I think this fandom has warped ME to the point where I did not assume the author Rainbow Rowell was a woman from her name.

1980523 Iunno, I can't speak to the how enjoyable the Skylanders games are, but the toys are actually entirely legit and the concept is amazing. Like, yeah, it's a cheap cash grab, but it's also EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANTED as a kid. And like I said, the toys are actually like, nicely sculpted and pained and stuff.

1980512 Heh I did something similar, though maybe even worse, when reading. I thought "I don't see the problem, Skylanders are obviously intended for girls!" So then I thought "Wait, he must be talking about the Pony stuff being for girls. But then what are Skylanders?"

Turns out, I was confused on the name, and thinking of Skydancers!

(Also, I'm old enough that "Spyro" was just "Spyro" and the word "Skylanders" didn't enter into it.)

Well, obviously Skylanders are the girls toys...

I see no problems here. Both girls and boys can enjoy both Skylanders and My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic, and the world is a slightly better place because of that.

Personally, I have more issues with the so-called 'food' at that so-called 'restaurant', but that's another matter entirely...

I don't get it. :trollestia:

1980533
Torgue is delightful. :rainbowlaugh:

1980642
Wait, Skylanders are a Spyro spinoff?

Pfft. I see no problem--only good tidings! Besides, it could be that now every time you see the smallest trace of pink, you have a moment where you jolt and think "My Little Pony?!?!". Could be that.

I certainly hope you bought one of the toys, btw...

I will not be satisfied until McDonalds gives out action figures of Tip, Unity, and Sweetheart!

I also probably won't be willing to buy their hamburgers until something like that happens...

I found this to be extremely amusing, and honestly, I'd probably have done the same thing. Ponies have taken over our brains!!
:rainbowlaugh::trollestia::yay::facehoof::raritydespair::pinkiegasp:

Bravo, Sky. You're now 1000% indoctrinated. Way to go :rainbowlaugh::trollestia:

JAG

:rainbowlaugh:

I, too, have the occasional awkward moment where I'll remember suddenly that yes, this is actually a show for little girls.

>that moment when you are considering going to the 24/7 McDonald's just off-campus and ordering a Happy Meal at 1AM

Man, I probably wouldn't even think about it.

I hardly ever eat at McDonalds though. Not that it is bad (I actually rather enjoy their food), just seldom have cause to, as none of the McDonalds here are along anywhere that I go regularly.

Did you buy enough Happy Meals to get all the pony toys?

No, it's the world that needs help.
It is our Manifest Destiny to dominate the Earth, and have Pony toys forever re-branded as Awesome-sauce Toys for Everyone.

Sounds like ponies are becoming more manly by the second.

It's probably because I'm not American myself, but I could never really figure out why so many fans like pony merch. Sure, you may like the show, the well-written characters, the animation. Most of the physical toys though... dl.dropbox.com/u/31471793/FiMFiction/Emoticons/shrug_Luna_apple.png

Ah whatever, at least it's one way to support Hasbro financially.

Warped? What are you talking about? As a girl who loves pony toys, I consider pony toys to be a male thing now.
Welcome to the world child.
We have cake.

Only if Tip comes with accessories, Unity comes with interchangeable body parts, and Sweetheart comes with an adorable* hat.

* of course, any hat on Sweetheart is automatically adorable.

Of course, if it was a girls toy they'd have applejack.

1980532
You've got a miniature Celestia in your head?

1980569

1980906

You don't need to get a happy meal, you can ask to buy just the toy, usually only about a dollar. Protip: ask for a specific one by color rather than name.

1980671 I was about to say this exact thing, but you beat me to it. I'm just happy that kids can grow up liking either hotrods, barbies, toy guns, or cute ponies and it doesn't matter  For example, one of my nieces is all about everything having to be pink and wanting to be a princess, "Just like Twila and Cadens", the other one is all about going fast and taking her "Lainbow Tash" everywhere with her. It's no longer "pick a side" but "pick what you like."

1981031
That's wonderful.
MLP:FiM is one of the favourite shows of my not-quite two-and-half year old son. It's got to the point that whenever he sees me sitting at the computer, he asks "Watch ponies with Daddy?".

1981119 My nieces are three and four-and-a-half (she makes sure to mention the half). The older one, you know, with the princess fetish, wants to start judo in my juniors' group the coming Fall. I have no objections.

I feel I should point out that (unless I'm mistaken) G1 and G4 were originally intended to be for both boys and girls.

1980533
That sounds awesome. are you going to record it?

Scandalous!

I am sad that Applejack was excluded. :ajsleepy:

1980703
I noticed this happening to me early last year. Every time I see pink or purple (Twilight is best pony, after all), I have to double check to see if it isn't more MLP merchandise. It's kinda scary how fast that happened... :facehoof:

1980512 1980532

This seems like a great way to figure out who to try to collaborate with.

"Alright, I've got Twilight in my head, and I want to do a buddy princess story as they bust the Gryphon fish-smuggling empire. Who have I got in my little rainbow book with Cadence in their head?"

1981525
Works for me. A contact list sorted by headpony seems like it'd be as hilarious as it would be useful.

1981336
:pinkiehappy: Try to remember me afterwards. I want to see that go off. (They get upset when you do stuff like that here in Canada.)

1981458
Yeah, exactly. Never really expected something like that to happen.

1981574
If by headpony, you mean best pony, then, yeah. It would be hilarious. :rainbowlaugh:

1981525 1981574

Contacts-by-headpony should be a thing.

1980703
Celestia, natch.

1980719
I... don't think all the homosexual shiptease would go over well with... well, anyone, come think.

1981002, 1981354
Cad(a/e)nce, of course! I don't really want to get too close to D.T.

1981119
So flippin' adorbs.

1981236
Poor girl gets no love, really.

1981525, 1981574
We can call it the Bestponidex.

1982278
Now here's a question: did you buy it as a brony, just ask for the toy and say nothing about it, or resort to something like "it's for my wife/sister/daughter"? Personally, I usually go the sister route, unless I'm rooted out ("You a brony?"), or I find the cashier themselves is one. Very ballsy, I know xD

1982288
It just so happened that my wife was the one with the cash that day. :pinkiehappy:

Wait, Skylanders isn't for girls?
