    A quick Slamjam postmortem note

So, the creator of one of the OCs I wrote about just about flipped his lid at me because I gave his character a gay shipping story, ruining his message of platonic bromance and emotionally vulnerable heterosexual dudes.

    Part 1: Poetry

“But I hate poetry” well that’s because you’re doing it wrong. A poem of the type that we were told to write in this class is just a short, condensed piece of work that shows who you are and what you do as a writer.

Lesson 0: Learn the rules before you break them

I know full well that I'm talking down to a lot of people in this post--my excuse is that writing it out is also a way for me to refresh the lessons in my own mind. Story tags are because I plan to go back and "grade myself" based on my own advice as i write these.

    All is right in ponydom

    I know, I said I would do a thing, and then I didn't.

I will. I promise. Next post.

But first, I need to share this with you: a friend has informed me that One Terrible Writer has posted all of his stories, previously thought to be lost forever, on fanfiction.net.

Knighty HATES him! Honolulu-area baker reveals how to improve your writing with 3 simple rules!

I’ve seen it a few times, and you probably have too: people will say stuff along the lines of “I bet this person took a community college course in creative writing and now they think they're so great.” It’s a very resonant insult for classists like me. Besides, it’s rooted in fact: the level of literacy needed to pass community college courses in this town is miserably low.

Are you guys there? · 10:17am Apr 3rd, 2014

I'm sure a lot of people wonder just how meaningful their follower count is, and I realized that there's a really simple way to find out: Just ask!

Leave a comment if you see this and tell me if you like what I put in your feed. There's no pressure; I'm just curious to know many of you are, you know, still here. No need to be shy. Just check in with "I'm here" if you don't know what to say. Obviously I have friends on my follower list, but a lot of my 170 followers are from a year-plus ago, and I write so infrequently that I'm sure I've given plenty of those 170 enough time to phase out.

The pic is because I like seeing it here on my user page.

I'm here. I think. Pretty certain I am. I could just be imagining it, and you, and everything else. I try not to think about it too hard because then I get confused and have to go and take a nap.

:pinkiecrazy:

Here, figuratively speaking.

Yah, here.

I see your blog. I'd better, I've commented on at least some of your posts! And yeah, I generally like your posts. You've posted some interesting, thought-provoking stuff in the past, and even if I don't always agree with your point of view, it's great for discussions. Which is basically why I'm still following you - I do have some of your stories on Read Later but I haven't had time to get to them, and the story of yours I do have favorited is still On Hiatus.

I am here! I don't know how long ago I followed you but it was with good reason and great honour (that sounded like a compliment in my head, hope it sounds that way in yours)

Hi I do things :B

The only problem is, most people can't be arsed to read journals on this site. :/

'allo! I'm still alive and interested. I couldn't say whether I enjoy your fic, your blogs, your commenters or your pics though.

1978625 This made me laugh, which is normally good, but ow my jaw XD

I'm here somewhere. And I must regretfully say that I don't know if I've paid attention to your blogs. It's a bit hard to keep up with everyone's blogs as well as remember who's I've read and so forth. Sorry if you were hoping for something more..

ey bby u u no i love ya

But seriously, yeah, I love your blogs. The stuff you post is a lot more interesting than almost everyone else I follow (and myself). So good on you for that.

I'm here. I read all of your blogs, but I check out your stories on a case by case basis...

Also, there might be some folks out there who do the opposite: Ignore your blogs (like this one) but check out your stories. So I'm not sure how good a census this makes overall.

o/` are you still there o/`

Course I'm here you silly :ajsmug:

Skyace, reporting for reading, YOOOO!!!

Sir Present Sir! :rainbowdetermined2:

Your policy is the same as mine for everyone else. As for the opposite, that's a... weird idea.

Maybe it's that I don't really use the follow button on anyone except friends, but... my whole idea here was to make a blog post so short that you could read it in the feed itself.

Well, keep in mind that as cool as we all find the social stuff on this site, it is primarily a fanfic archive. There are a lot of users out there who only use the site for reading stories, and might never comment at all (especially if they come from a different fanfic culture, like fanfiction.net, or are reading clop they don't want to be connected with.) We just don't notice them, because they read, maybe upvote, and we never get to talk to them.

So they're more likely to skip any blog post not related to when a story they like is going to update.

Hell yes I'm here - won't be leaving any time soon either.

I must admit I fall into the 'read fanfic, ignore blog post' group most of the time, but I do read some of them.

OF course I like seeing what you write, Tacboom. :rainbowkiss:

I read blog posts more than I do stories. That counts, right?

Your question has raised an existential terror in me. Do I exist? I can't be sure...

I'm still here.
