Vindication Much? · 6:50am Mar 23rd, 2014
So, we have an episode where Luna willfully manipulates dreams, and a projected potential future of Rarity as a bedraggled recluse.
I'm not normally one to say I told you so... So, I won't, but you're all thinking it.
Of course, due to the TVY rating, we didn't actually SEE the heroine, but you all know it was in there somewhere.
It was pretty dark and that's why I loved it and I also find it hilarious that of all the fics to make a connection to show I never would've guessed that we'd see a connection to The Sun Eater
I haven't read your stories yet, but I have the nagging feeling that I should add them to the pony drug group.

All of my non-Derpy stories (which are my G-rated, Hasbro-ish material) contain ponies that smoke, drink, cuss, do drugs, etc.
Think of what would happen if Lauren Faust, Hunter S. Thompson, and H.P. Lovecraft all got together and started talking shop.
I call it the "Sun Eater" continuity. The two primary stories are "The Sun Eater," which was written between seasons two and three to give some perspective on my understanding of Equestria at the time of its writing, and "Ghosts of Gods," which was written between seasons three and four. If it's not a part of "The Misadventures of Derpy Hooves," it's in that continuity, and all of them are Alternate Universe tagged. All of my one-shots are in that continuity, and basically serve to explore the psychology of that... well... warped version of the mane six I invented for it.
In that universe, Twilight is a chain smoker. Rarity is a junkie party girl, ala Paris Hilton, and Pinkie is her Nicole Richie. Applejack is a hard-nosed whiskey drunk. For some reason, both the pegasi of the mane six came off without any serious addictions, but both of them have their fair share of interpersonal (interponyal?) problems, too.
It's pretty dark, at times, but there's always a reason for it.
I'd be glad for you to read it, and feel free to leave commentary; I love to see people's thoughts on my work. Just keep in mind that it's not meant to be a Hasbro-Faustian continuity -- It gets pretty harsh. I also freely admit that it represents me working out a lot of my own personal issues through alternate versions of the mane six. (And if you wonder which one is the most relevant to me, I'll give you a hint: I'm from Mississippi.)
So... Yeah, most of what I write would probably fit in a group about drug-using ponies. Just not the Derpy fics. Those are specifically meant for Bronies who just like normal MLP:FiM-type stuff. I love those stories, too, but the Sun Eater continuity is far more representative of what happens when I write in my usual style and in my own universe. (I'm working on an original, non-pony, diesel-punk fantasy novel, right now. Will post it to fiction press when it's done. Might be a couple years, though. Real life has me busy, busy.)

Yeah, I got a pretty substantial giggle out of some of the similarities, but it was also kind of creepy to see that I had interpreted a more "adult" version of the character so closely to what the actual writing staff does the "for kids" version.
The one relief was that it was still in the show's art style. When I imagined all the "Sun Eater" stories, everypony looked like this in my head:
Photo-Realistic, On-Model Rainbow Dash
I had to think of it that way to keep those stories separate enough from the show for me to still enjoy FiM for what had originally drawn me to it: Being something that was inane, childish, and just fun.
I take a pretty dire outlook on life, and odd as it may seem, forging that world in a different art style in my head kept me from polluting the Equestria that made me love this weird, inane horse cartoon with the ugliness that I can't help bringing to most of what I write.
