Yeah! That's right, I finally got To Be A Princess updated. Chapter Eight is the biggest and best yet. Well maybe not the best, but certainly the most difficult - and inarguably the biggest. For the longest time, it felt like I was going to have to write a chapter which amounted nothing more than moving the plot along, but thankfully I managed to squeeze a little more out of it than that. Sometimes ideas just come to you, and that was certainly the case this time, so I hope you all enjoy it.
While I'm writing this, I thought I might talk a little bit more about some of the things I'm planning. Remember that Sweetie Belle story that I put on hiatus during the early writing phase? Well, it might be back. It'll be in a completely revamped format though, so I'll need to go back to the drawing board on it. I think much of my problem with the original concept was how far out of my comfort zone it was. I've tried to reign it in a little and see where that takes me. It might mean a new story or it might mean nothing at all. It's impossible to tell right now. Yet I'm optimistic. In any case, I'm going to have to try to only have one major writing project going on at any given time. Work has just become a totally different ballgame and it's taking up a lot more time than I'd care to let it.
In any case, I haven't had very much time to talk about Season 4 in my blogs yet. After the first episode, I've been less and less inclined to voice my opinion. That's not because it's a negative opinion, but rather that I've seen so many opinions that I'm not sure what else I can really add. I've loved it, though some episodes have been better than others. My personal highlights thus far have been the songs. Perhaps not all of them, but Hearts Strong as Horses and Find the Music in You were outstanding. In fact, the whole Filli Vanilli episode was top class.
My only lowlight was Twilight Time. I was so hyped for that because I had so thoroughly enjoyed Flight to the Finish and I thought another fabulous CMC episode was on the horizon. Unfortunately, I was left with a bad case of selective squick. Don't get me wrong, they did bring it back towards the end and I thought that overall, it was a passable episode. The fact that we saw Sweetie Belle using her magic for the first time made me very happy. The problem was that the whole episode felt more childish than usual. I found myself remembering that this show wasn't written for me and I was briefly put off. I don't know if any of you felt the same. I guess it was bound to happen at one time or another. I'm glad to say that it wasn't bad enough to put me right off. I've invested a lot of time and money in this show, after all.
In terms of the new writers, Josh Haber has definitely been the stand-out. Both of his episodes have been up there with the best in the season and I think we can expect great things from his next foray (Leap of Faith). His characterisation is wonderful and his plots have been very insightful and not to mention he's hilarious. I love him, and while he may never take over from Meghan McCarthy or Amy Keating-Rogers as my all time favourite, he has definitely planted himself very near the top of the charts already.
Anyway, that's it from me for today. Enjoy the story and I hope to have more for you before too long.
