I'm a random guy that claims to know how to write. I'm constantly being proven wrong.

Wow, writers really suck on this site or something! · 11:21am Mar 10th, 2014

Seriously! I looked through my favorites, and I almost three quarters of all the "unfinished" stories are either on hiatus, or haven't been updated in a year or more!

How long does a chapter take to write! I mean, a sentence a day and you can put out stuff faster than these people!

As someone in their shoes, I can say that it's not always that easy. Real life likes to drop kick you in the face sometimes, crushing your creativity and motivation in sacrifice to more important or pressing issues.

While some authors eventually bounce back, others may find otehr things to do after having exited the fan fiction scene for so long. I know I'm struggling to get back in to where I was myself. :twilightsheepish:

Like Azu said, there are many factors to this issue. I'm guilty of this as well.

My problem is lack of interest. I have a story on fanfiction.net that's over 120K+ words... and I got bored of it. Ponies invaded my life and haven't let go.

I can also tell you that sometimes, writing can feel like homework. If you don't enjoy it, you won't want to do it. Pressure from fans doesn't help, because then you feel as though you are only doing it for them and not for yourself.

For some people, I can see that. Others though, I can't see that as an excuse. For one big big big example, ShortSkirtsandExplosions is probably the biggest writing menace on the site. Meanwhile, he hasn't updated "The Last Pony" since the Christmas after I got on the site (I literally remember off the top of my head). He still writes a lot, still does a lot, but just NOT THAT STORY.

Sure, there are the reasons of getting bored of a story, but then why don't you put it as cancelled if you aren't going to pick it up again? It just confuses me.

THIS IS WHY I WRITE MOST OF THE STORY FIRST :rainbowwild:

Well you don't have to worry about mines taking that long lol.

I feel you bro.
One of the first pony fan fictions I ever read was "The Ballad of Twilight Sparkle."

Oof, yeah, that story not being completed is still painful to me. So many awesome stories people tend to suddenly say 'screw it', unless you're dead finish what you started ya bastards!

I have a bunch of stories that I wish would update. One notable story was "Pinkie and the Spy". I loved that story and it was nearly done but the author has not come back in a VERY long time. Sad face...

1914447 Or at least give people a heads up. I can forgive if you give a heads up on status updates, but bleh.

1916015 Tell that to those who are looking at "Equestria: Total War"

Hmm I could go with "My First Party" but while it is slightly more out of date by an author that is still on this site it does not have as many up votes as yours...

Still unfinished stories make me a sad panda.

1916610 Ah yes, another story that I am currently following.

Another one that just died all the sudden (I swear the author died) was "Equestria's Twilight."
