The End of "All-American Girl" (no, I'm not ending it, don't panic!) · 3:16pm Mar 9th, 2014

This was brought up to a small degree in the AAG forums (and if you haven't joined yet, why not?) but we're getting to the end of Book I (of III planned) of the All-American Girl saga. That means that most definitely, Book I (All-American Girl), as well as Polarity, will end in the next couple of months and the overall story will be continued in Book II (of only a few know the title so far because....it's a seeeeeeeccccccrrrrrreeeeettt! :rainbowlaugh:). Here's the question:

Should I do something similar to The Ambassador's Son series (which I recommend, by the way) and split the large book (e.g. Book I is The Ambassador's Son, Book II is The King of Diamonds, etc.), or;

Should I just keep going within the current AAG area (dump it all in All-American Girl's slot) and just disambiguate with a Book II? If I do it that way, you don't get the neat new cover art, and some of the chapter titles I'm planning might run out of space due to the title space limitations.

As always, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

I'd argue to split it up. If the story will follow a three book structure anyway, it seems the neatest solution.

Will this mean a new title for the original, though? Seems a bit ripe for confusion to have almost the same name for book one and the whole saga like that if you plan to add more books to it.

Having red the Ambassadors sun series (though still in the process of reading this), I wanted to ask you, did you plan to end on a very clear note in the vein of that series, or is it more a 'to be continued' kind of thing?

If its the first, I would say go to a second book like the son does. if its the latter, something like Justice Itself is like a better option.

From a practical viewpoint, splitting it up can make starting it less intimidating to readers (the wordcount is already quite high). Another consideration is the new story might not (instantly) gain featured status, which could possibly deny it some exposure. I've personally seen this with another author.

I say split it up.

It'll be easier to navigate each story and they can be displayed together.

Split it up, sir. It is only logical.

(dump it all in All-American Girl's slot)

Really, how can you expect me not to make the joke? And yes, I agree with the motion that the books should be split up. As much as it would impress me to see your fic surpass FO:E as the biggest monster ever conceived, splitting it just makes more sense.

Besides, you shouldn't just dump things in AAG's slot like that. At least buy her dinner first! :raritywink:

I would say split it up. You could do something like the 1632 series does- (1632, 1633, 1634: The Baltic War, etc) where you could do All American Girl, All American Girl: Whatever the title is, All American Girl: Title 3, or something like that. It might be more manageable that way?

Just a suggestion. :unsuresweetie:

Haha. Hee! I just favorited the damn story. It took me several days just to get to chapter 2, and i still have about 300,000 words to read just to catch up. And you're saying... that you aren't hardly even done yet? :raritycry:

You can't tell me what to do. I can panic if I want.

Actually, given all that I've written so far in the overall series, we're coming close to 1M words now. Just sayin'. :trollestia:

1911303 Wow. That's impressive man :moustache:

I agree with splitting it up into separate books. I have a thing about stories being overly long.

If nothing else, the prospect of starting a story with 1 million words is daunting to the average reader. Have three stories of 1/3 million each is slightly more digestible.

I have already given my opinion in the matter: it is only worth the bother if you can create a psychological separation and a clean and logical break between the books, and if you then make sure to open the next book with all the elements necessary to make it readable as a stand alone.

Well if the final chapter of Book I is called "End of Arc I/Book I" after the initial chapter than it should be fine. Also I am not sure if you get an update about people making sequels if you faved it so I'm not sure whether or not you should make a starting chapter in the Second Book already before you finish this one.

Split it up, it would make it far more likely for a new reader to join our group of All American Girl followers

All hail the Great DJ

It's okay if overall count of "books" is not too many (Two, may be three).
I've seen stories with 10 sequels with 5000-20000 words each, it's hell to navigate.

Could see it either as an all in one like Man of War by tallestbrony or in chunks like MAybe series by Fat1thatyoulove
