Littlecolt

I write about small pastel-colored ponies and do bad things to them. Ask me about anything, I love talking about my stories even more than writing them.

    Progress Report

For those wondering ever since my previous and somewhat ominous post, yes, I have been writing again. Progress is moving along, although unlike when I was in my prime, I have less time to do it each day when I can. The next chapter will be released when it is ready, but also not before I go back and do some minor - MINOR - edits to previous chapters of Pinked. There are certain things I want to

    The Brainwashing of My Father

My name is Zanzil. I am a Changeling. This is as much my story as it is the story of my father, a proud member of the Changeling race, and a hero of Equestria. His name was Dorsa, and he was bigger than life itself. Even now, I can remember him looking down upon me as a mere spawn and smiling as he told me about my people and our history.

    Frazzled

I can't lie, and while I feel bad about it, my new position at work has me completely overworked and frazzled. I can't do anything but get a breather on breaks, and after work each day I just don't want to do anything. On the weekend, I do have things I do, but it's just very... brain off.

I really hope I can get back into where I was after EFNW just before I took the new position.

Trying hard to write, write, write

I am trying hard to write through the last of Book 6. I hadn't forgotten, but I had been going through a lot in my personal life. The death of a friend, financial troubles, and a budding relationship that has now seemingly crashed and burned have kept me in a slump for a long time.

Twilight Time! · 12:12pm Feb 23rd, 2014

So, as I tend to feel the need to do every week, I've seen a couple complaints from the people I like to call the pony doomsayers about this week's episode. It seems like a lot of times, the complaints I see repeated over and over online get their start with someone, or a couple someones, not necessarily the same people every time, and these get repeated like memes. You know how this fandom loves memes... So anyway, here's the ones that I've sort of jumped on this time.

1. Twilight has been firmly made into a bland support character, and if you still had any doubts, this episode solidified it a lot. She doesn't seem to have any flaws and lacks any development.
---I don't think so! You stop that right now! I see you still hating on Twilicorn for no good reason, over there, while trying to sound sensible! Here's the problem, though... we've almost never had an episode where a character had a lot of depth if it wasn't "their episode". I'd also argue the Twilight episodes we've had this season have been wonderful, especially Three's a Crowd. And if you think she knows everything suddenly, somehow, look at how she screwed up with magic in Bats!, and that wasn't even a Twilight episode. I think people look to Lesson Zero and the like a little too much. They want Twilight to screw up a lot again, but that would suggest such a static character, and I don't want any of those in this show, although Fluttershy has been pretty static in many ways... but now is not the time to go into that.

2. The other kids in this episode are so crazy, all wanting to go see Twilight now that she's a princess, but why has no one acted so crazy towards her in previous episodes?
---This is a valid complaint, but you need to put it into perspective, and it CERTAINLY doesn't make the whole episode bad! "But Littlecolt!" I hear you shouting, "The whole episode is based upon this plot point! It's such a huge part of the episode that it just drags it down so far." - Okay, well, I'd like to hear your thoughts on Filli Vanilli, just last week. See, last week, we had a crew of not just background ponies, but main characters, who were seemingly unaware that Fluttershy could sing really well, and some of them were confused by the concept of Stage Fright. Maybe Fluttershy wasn't the only one who didn't learn anything from Hurricane Fluttershy, hmm? They even say "stage fright" back in that episode about Fluttershy's fear of performing. And yet, Filli Vanilli is a widely loved episode. Why are people complaining about this week's strange pivotal plot element but not last week's nearly as loudly? Well, first, I think there's a lot of people ALWAYS looking for something to complain about. People just LOVE to complain, there's some people who MUST complain no matter what. But aside from that, I think last week's episode got a pass because it had a good song in it and people were abuzz from the spoilers in the previous week about how it "had a real season 1 vibe to it." - If it's so season 1 like, surely any brony purist HAS to love it. You'd lose face, right? Sure.

And let's get it straight, I think Filli Vanilli was a great episode. Twilight Time was, too.

So what are your thoughts?

Even if it's good. Too much canon. End of line. :raritycry:

I loved the episode. I mean... Sweetie Belle uses magic, Applebloom makes potions, and Twilight is acknowledged as a princess. I hope the CMC gets their cutie mark soon. Also, I've officially left the Silver Spoon Haters team. I mean, just look at her; she is so cute :pinkiehappy::

About the Twilicorn situation. I. LOVE. TWILICORN. Seriously, when it was announced that my favorite pony will become an alicorn, I put her coronation into my calendar, and waited for it like a little girl. The season 3 finale is still in my top3 favorite episodes.
So what about this season? To be honest, it great surpasses my expectation in almost every possible way. Almost. The only problem is... well... with Twilight. I REALLY wanted things to change in season 4, I wanted her to truly become someone generally recognized. Then... it didn't happen. Everything almost stayed as is. It feels like the writers (or Hasbro, forcing the writers) made a huge change, but didn't want to acknowledge it for the sake of some status quo. So currently, my favorite ponies are Pinkie Pie, then Fluttershy, then Scootaloo. I simply lost interest in Twilight in this season (exception: Three's a crowd)

EDIT:
Hm... did I say I lost interest in Twilight? Forget it:

But... But Phoenix! :pinkiegasp:

Don't worry Pinkie, I was just saying it to make others laugh. You know you are my only true love.

Awww, I love you too :pinkiesad2:
