    Bronycon 2019: The Epic

So, here I am. Nursing a nice warm herbal tea (dandelion burdock eluthero, my own blend) to soothe my Bronycon-wrecked voice, and preparing the final Bronycon con report. Beware, this is longer than most people's stories, but it also has a story arc and drama and the classic Applejinx happy ending.

    Capstone

Trixieverse is one million, three hundred and forty-six thousand and eight words. The eight words are "SORRY DOESN’T FROST THE CUPCAKES! screeched Pinkie Pie", and now it can be told: the millionth word of Trixieverse was Pinkie shrieking 'CUPCAKES' in a sincerely murderous mood. Because, if you're writing a million word clopfic series and you're aware of ponyfic traditions, how can you NOT have

    Foreign Affairs

I cannot launch 'Foreign Affairs' for Xmas. I've tried and I have a great deal of preparation and I'm excited about the story, but I have just over one day not counting traveling to visit family, dealing with that etc etc. and I've only got 700 or so words and I've had far too much to deal with and it ain't happening. :ajsleepy:

But I can launch it for New Year's! :ajsmug:

    The Bronycon Dialogue Panel

People are beginning to post the panels they did at Bronycon, so I thought I might join in.

Here's the panel Lunatone gave, with Applejinx-style preparation, rehearsal and presentation (I also brought some of my dialogue know-how to the table :raritywink: )

    Bluebell

Patron Saint Bluebell: Ursula Vernon Tumblr

You might want to read that, it's good.

It's also the reason that I'm going to write another full Trixieverse novel. It will be called 'Foreign Affairs', and take place in Neighpon.

Shocking Revelations · 1:48am Feb 11th, 2014

So, this is a tale of two ponies, and one writer.
One writer… who has, perhaps, not been wholly honest, even with himself.
Who makes omelettes, a fine country breakfast every morning…

…that are French omelettes, done with just the right flip of the wrist, and who is very proud when they come out just perfect.
Who gets up at farmer hours in the morning, and is proud of that…
…but stays up working on things, and naps in the middle of the day just to stand the strain of that workload
…wearing a sleep mask, like a certain unicorn we know.
Who is proud of skills and accomplishments…
But these accomplishments are often outbursts of mad libido and pony lusts…
To the extent that they are enjoyed privately but publically shunned.
We have here a pony with a mad fixation on Rainbow Dash's special charms and personality…
Who buys into Appledash completely, given their obvious mutual adoration…
But who gives in to self-doubt when challenged, frantically trying to be anyone she is not…
…to the extent that she will PRETEND TO BE Applejack rather than herself, even if this is ridiculous…

…TWICE.

Don't cry, dear one. It's okay. But you are well and truly busted (as am I)

I feel like quite a fool, really. That friend of mine that I'd crushed on so hard, who's known me for years but I haven't spoken to for a long time? That Dash? It's HER fault. Once she suggested it, things started falling into place.

The sleep mask. The fine omelettes. The staying up obsessively working on things. The fussy isolation and dedication to various arts. The workspace that is a mess, but MY mess with all the little things just where I know they will be. Even, yes, the generosity combined with staggering selfishness in a constant interplay. And not least, continually trying to pretend to BE Applejack (of all ponies) because to be myself is not enough.

I adore Applejack nearly as much as I crave and long for Dashie (yet wish the best for her, even if it's not me), but I'm not really Applejack in spirit, am I? It is to laugh. No wonder Rarity's story arcs have been so intense and rich. She's me, and I'm a fool to deny it any longer.

I am sure nopony gives the proverbial rat's ass, and only wonder whether I am the last to spot this—and as brony drama goes, crisis of pone-identity is one of the more ridiculous crises one could possibly face. My very name has been Apple-ized from the moment I entered the fandom, and I've made a great to-do and fuss over my self-identity as a trusty (and sexy, and wonderful) bumpkin.

A dear friend has just written a RariDash story, however, quite out of the blue.

Who knows? Maybe being myself will be the friendship lesson that brings me my heart's desire.

Thank you for putting up with my past, and future, foolishness, and I shall be launching Trixieverse Book Six in March.

Aww, don't fret.

I think we all have a little bit of several ponies in us. I also identify with Applejack, but know I have my Twilight, Rainbow Dash, and even (heaven help me) Fluttershy aspects.

I think Applejack is the pony we want to be, and who wouldn't? She's strong, dependable, responsible, diplomatic, takes care of everypony, and works hard and cheerfully. She's a grown-ups superhero. Focusing on the ways we're like her is often our way of focusing on the best parts of ourselves.

So, there's nothing wrong with trying to be Applejack. Just don't be upset when the other ponies start to show through. :ajsmug:

Thank you. And yes, there's something terribly funny about all this :raritywink: :trollestia:

I guess when you let the ponies lead you out of despair and cling to what you've recognized in them that you share, it's singularly disconcerting to find that image shifting and changing, shaking off the mud and revealing a horn.

Pointy-head fancy-pony? Moi? Surely not. I merely practice the craft of writing, while also making my living writing computer programs to celebrate the artistry of audio and music. Erm. :duck: now that I put it that way, it does sound more than a little 'pointy-head'. NOT quite digging ditches and bucking trees, is it?

Life is full of surprises :raritywink:

And if I am Rarity, then I certainly gave Applejack the ride of her life in the Trixieverse books, during our mad fling! :raritywink:

1821173
Well.. you were dressed awful fancy at BronyCon. Not exactly your work duds. Maybe we should've seen this coming.

Hee hee! The allegory!

Clean that mud off, love. We still love you.

Could be worse--you could be wearing a frayed straw hat and a pair of muddy overalls. And yelling in an unconvincing accent.

1821188
They wanted me to wear a TEE shirt :raritydespair:
:raritycry:
But they didn't have the shirts, so I remained attired in style the entire con :raritywink:
Maybe this next time, as they gear up to demand a dress code even MORE vehemently, and offer things like polo shirts to soften the sartorial blow, I'll be able to deal with it better now that I know from whence (in myself) the outright rebellion is coming. :duck:

*gives you a makeup kit and looks forward to March*

I'm too lazy to be a pony or at last to identify with one. But If you dare to break the Appledash you are gonna have big troubles!!!! :ajbemused:

Just kidding, I love how you write, and I looking forward to march.

Oh, I don't know, 'Jinx...

If you don't expect others to buy you stuff and carry your baggage despite being fully capable of doing those things yourself, you're not that much like Rarity. :trollestia:

1821501
*snort* feh! Generosity itself. And nopony has OFFERED to carry my bags. Yet. :raritywink:

To thine own self be true, Rarity. :rainbowkiss:

Looks like a lot of people saw this coming! :rainbowlaugh:

(Also? Turn around) :rainbowwild: ;)

Uh-oh. New avatar. So, when can we expect the name change to Rarijinx? :derpytongue2:

Rarijinx! Hello! Glad to meet you! or is it Jinxity?

Who says that you only have to be ONE pony, hmm?

1821872
No name change. Applejinx was never a 'ship name' so there's no need. I am proud to bear an Apple name like a glorious standard carried forward, and it more accurately represents my goals for the book endings, where all the courageous ponies fight their way through to happiness and safety. :ajsmug:

But then if there wasn't Rarity in there deviously thinking up really terrifying troubles along the way, that would be quite boring, no? :duck: :applejackconfused:

The REAL question is: rather than cultivate a ponytail, do I take up the use of mascara a la Roxy Music era Brian Eno? It would be striking… :duck:

1823032 I've always liked guys in make up. :)

1823132
There is no benefit to making YOU wriggly and worked-up! :raritycry:

Well, no benefit to me, your Soarin would doubtless be enthralled :duck:

:raritydespair:

I am not THAT generous, not today :raritywink: but noted! (actually, I've known that for years)

If I may make a suggestion...

radiometal.com/images/posts/2010/06/alicecooper-conf.jpg

...can't go wrong with Alice Cooper!

Haha, that was the perfect image to finish with. This just means you're even more fabulous than you realized.

Considering I love Rarity and Applejack about equally (and ship Rarijack just as hard, ahahahaa...) I see no troubles with discovering you may have morphed from one to the other. Or perhaps, as this most recent episode may suggest, you're less of an Applejinx and more closely related to Applejewel. :raritywink:

1825438
Oh, but no no noo! :raritystarry:
That sort of glorious natural glamour is just what is beyond me, despite the ferocity of my efforts :raritydespair:
I cannot hope to be as wonderful as that Applejack. I am the clever, overlooked unicorn, beside myself with frustration and earthy desires, leaping into the mud in a frenzy in desperate attempts to gain advantage.
And you know it :duck:
Thankfully, I seem to have loyal (and insightful) friends, and to be forgiven my follies :raritywink:

1826358 ya sure do!!!

*puts a wing around you for a hug* :)

:rainbowkiss:

Hmm, would it be wrong of me to say I kinda knew this was the case?

1835072
Indeed not. It is rather reassuring :duck:

Well dear, after having traveled all over the map with you in TVBAC, you have definitely gravitated to the three. Your goal :rainbowhuh:, your ideal :ajsmug: and yourself :raritystarry:.
Happy to see you with the mud coming off.
 Shana

Hijinks! Hi, Jinx.

A profoundly disorienting moment to take off the mask, isn't it? When we've grown so used to what's in the mirror that we're not quite sure what to make of this intimate exposure to ourselves. (I … may be speaking from recent experience.)

What's so breathtaking to me here is the ease with which the show has provided you a metaphor. That new user icon is glorious.

Keep on being you. As long as your mask is a useful reflection of traits you want to expose to the worłd, there's no shame and no dishonesty in slipping it back on. As far as I'm concerned, this just gives you some new and fascinating depth.
