Spike's status in the show · 10:03pm Feb 8th, 2014
I just finished watching the new episode "Simple Ways". Overall, it was alright Not the best but certainly not the worst. But there is one thing that is bothering me, which has bothered me for a while.
Why the hell does Spike keep getting treated like a running gag rather than a character. Throughout this episode Spike is shown to be little more than Rarity's pawn. Wouldn't he be a little upset about her having feelings for someone else without even giving him a second thought. Something needs to be done that puts Spike in a more respectable light and actually portrayed as a relatable character, not as a moron to be laughed at.
Maybe Spike has finally getting over his crush of Rarity. But then again i really don't like how the writers made Spike this season at all
1811809 Well, if he was over his crush, how come he was so determined to help her in the episode? I'm just hoping there isn't another Spike at your service.
1811876 Yeah me too. The writers need to do something more about his character.
My guess is that Spike is becoming a little more mature and caring more about Rarity's happiness than his own.
I actually really liked Spike in this episode. There was a bit of the humor, but what i mainly saw from him was pure maturity. He took everything Rarity was doing with a grain of salt, like he knew full-well his chances with her hadn't diminished in the slightest, and was still playing the part of a gentledrake and friend.
I loved his fourth wall break too, when he raised an eyebrow at the audience like he was asking, "Did this Bitch really just go there?"
I really hope to see more scenes like this from him, and far less then what we saw in Rarity Takes Manehatten.
I kinda wish there was an episode that has a similar premise to your story a week with trixie because in the last chapter spike got to become what he always dream of becoming for a day for a play a dragon knight that would be cool if spike can somehow become that form again in a episode so spike can at least help his friends fight a villain since he hardly ever gets the chance to help the mane six defeat a villain except for the crystal empire but the likelihood of that ever happening is very slim.
1841056 that would be interesting to see. A multi episode story arc focused solely on a single plot point. We haven't seen that from the show yet.
1842049 Doubt Hasbro will do it though considering that only 8 episodes of season 4 have to do with the season long story arc while the rest are slice of life episodes but it would be nice to see a multi-episode story arc in mlp fim besides the fanfics on this site heck I would like to see a story arc based off the fanfic Harmony of the Heart where Spike is revealed to be a hamony dragon and sweetie belle become's spikes special somepony but at lase stories such as this can only be told in fanfiction unless hasbro surprises us with a multi-episode story arc that is well paced and well written.
What's your opinion now that the season has ended and we had three episodes back-to-back acknowledging Spike's importance?
2128103 I am glad spike has some of the limelight, but I prefer lesson zero spike to the current slightly clumsy spike. It seems like has to make an ass of himself whenever the focus is on him which really bothers me.
2128653 Well, we gotta take into account that most of this time he's been working outside his comfort zone (which is Twilight and books). Moreover, he was a tremendous oaf with a case of stupid in season 1 as well, remember when he had practically no vocabulary in the pilot?
2128803 that is true and he did show signs of improving in season 2 starting with lesson zero but he went way down hill in season 3, especially in spike at your service. He wasn't as bad in this past season but he was still dumbed down. It's like what happened to squidward in later SpongeBob though its not as bad as that.
