Okay, here we go · 9:10pm Feb 4th, 2014
Today, I will be be adding my very first fanfiction to this site. But first, a little background about me.
As you may notice by my username and avatar, I am a huge Bionicle fan. I started collecting the sets right from the beginning back in 2001, but it was not until late 2003 that I started to seriously follow the storyline that went with it. Since then, I went on to collect every set, book, and comic book I could get my hands on, all the way up until the series was discontinued in 2010. My Bionicle collection now stands at 184 different sets (not quite all of them, but definitely a large percentage of them), in addition to every comic book after 2003 and all of the books that were ever released. Despite the ending of the sets and storyline, I still remain a huge fan of Bionicle to this day.
After Bionicle was discontinued, I went in and out of various fandoms for a few years. Eventually, in October 2012, I decided to resume activity at BZPower, the largest Bionicle fansite (which I had initially joined back in 2004). It didn't take me long to notice that forum had a discussion topic for My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. At the time, my only knowledge of that show was second-hand information from another forum I still frequently visit. (My views on the show at that time: I didn't mind it, but I didn't find it interesting enough to pursue further information.) After spending a few days to read through every post in that topic (for example, I was surprised to find out the guy who voiced Jaller also voiced Shining Armor) I guess reading that much info in so little time finally convinced me to look further into this.
I decided to start right here, at FiMFiction.net. Fanfiction is often one of the first things I check out when I get interested in a new fandom, and this site had no shortage at all. I quickly found and read every Bionicle crossover story, then moved on to other interesting stories. I quickly found so many, that it got to a point where I had over a hundred tabs open at all times, just so I could keep track of what stories I had yet to read. This was starting to slow down my laptop noticeably, so I knew I had no choice but to become a member just so I could use the Read Later feature. I decided to do so on a special day, when the final episode of season 3 aired. Since then, I have not looked back. And good thing, too, because now my Read Later list is nearing 700! (I blame Civilization V for taking up most of my time, last year.)
Even after that, and after I started following Equestria Daily in mid June (when Equestria Girls was released), I still did not technically consider myself to be a Brony for one simple reason: I had not yet watched a single episode of the entire show. Although I had read all the summaries, transcripts, and galleries of each episode by March last year, I still hadn't gotten around to try to find a way to watch the show (my house doesn't get the Hub Network, so the internet is my only option). Luckily, I didn't have to hunt them down, as Equestria Daily had decided to do that 66 Days of Pony countdown to the start of season 4, allowing me to easily find and watch every single episode that had aired up to that point. Once that was over, there was finally nothing to hold me back from writing my own fanfic on this site.
Over the past year, I've come up with many ideas, but I can only do one at a time, so I had to choose carefully which one I believed would have the most potential. I could have gone with a Bionicle crossover, but seeing as there are already 22 of them in total at this time, it just didn't seem to be a... new enough idea for me to start with. However, there is one type of crossover I have yet to come across here: LEGO. I'm talking about like a world made of Lego bricks, populated by Lego minifigs, consisting of a blend of many different themes. Plus, ever since I had seen Equestria Girls, I knew that that mirror they used would open up a lot of potential for fanfiction. It just seemed like the perfect combination: Take the start of Equestria Girls, and instead of a human high school, have Twilight (and Spike) go to a Lego World. This is something I've been thinking over for months now, so I obviously couldn't take any inspiration from "The Lego Movie" which has yet to be shown in theaters (though I definitely want to see it). Instead, I went with another Lego movie that I had already seen and liked: The Adventures of Clutch Powers. A lot of ideas I decided to use for my story came from that, but I also made some changes to make my story a little different from that kind of world.
Anyway, I really want to get this fanfic of mine up today, and it's starting to get late, so I'll just stop right here and see what happens.
Finally! We need more regular LEGO crossovers on this site. BIONICLE ones dominate, there are only two HF stories here, and the one Ninjago story.
Nice to see a fellow Bionicle fan (though I wish I had the funds to have as many sets as you) and BZPower user (even if I haven't been there for a while)! I sympathise with the tab excesses too - despite the read later function (which is now at over 800) I still need to trim my tabs to under 100.
Anyway, your fic looks good so far - keep it up, and have a follow from me.
It's good to see a fellow BIONICLE lover.
My story is much the same as yours, though I foolishly sold my entire collection. I briefly grew out of LEGO. Now, I regret selling my collection off. The three huge containers that I sold that contained my hundreds of pieces... lost. They were so large, I could barely move them. Soon, I shall reconstruct (heh) my collection.
We need more LEGO and more BIONICLE crossovers here. Fight the good fight.
