Okay, judging from the comments and PMs I’ve been getting, it seems that enough of you are interested in seeing the original ideas I had for MOA, so I figured why the hell not. This should be fun…
Marcus’s Personality
Marcus wasn’t always the character you’ve come to know and love (or hate, depending on where you stand). When I originally had the idea for MOA, I drafted Marcus as a very shy character that despite his desire to go to CUFTA, was very apprehensive about leaving home, and was deathly afraid of being so far away from his parents. I eventually decided that this character wouldn’t work, mainly because nobody likes a whiny protagonist. Plus, if Marcus was so afraid of going to school in Equestria, then why would he show any interest in CUFTA?
Love Interests and Timelines
After changing Marcus’s personality to his current one, I thought about who would be his main love interest. The decision that I came to wasn’t Rarity… of Octavia… or Luna.
It was Sweetie Belle.
An aged-up Sweetie Belle, to be exact. The story was originally supposed to take place YEARS after the events of Season 3, when the CMC were all older and had gone their separate ways. There was even going to be a scene where Rarity comes to visit her little sister and questions her about her and Marcus (this scene was going to be before they got together). I ended up replacing Sweetie Belle with Rarity and added Octavia, as well, which brings me to my next point:
Octavia’s Personality
At first, when I decided to add Octavia to the cast of characters, I originally had her cast as a character that would be an antagonist to Marcus, which would be interesting considering the fact that she would be Rarity’s roommate, and Rarity was Marcus’s friend. I then decided that this stuck-up bitch personality wouldn’t work for Octavia, and I simply made her the more reserved friend with a hidden adventurous side.
Celestia as a Mother Figure
In the MOA you know, Celestia plays the role of the mother figure that tries just a little too hard. In the original draft, it was just the opposite. Celestia was originally supposed to be the mother that didn’t really try at all. Her story arc initially involved her being naïve about how much attention being someone’s guardian required, and after something bad happens to Marcus, she realizes how oblivious she had been to her responsibilities as Marcus’s aunt and legal guardian. After looking back on this, I realized how out-of-line this is with Celestia’s character. As Princess of Equestria, it wouldn’t really make sense that she would be so careless with Marcus. Sure, it would be realistic if she were a little inexperienced, but not totally oblivious. Such a story arc would be more suited to Luna, if anypony.
So there you have it. Those were my original ideas for MOA. How do they compare to the story now? Let me know in the comments!

I am very glad for the changes.
So Sweetie Bell was the original love interest. That would have been awesome. It would have been something new, and she needs more attention(stupid Scootaloo).
Oh well.
If I may ask a question, why did you replace the original planned love interest?

After a while, I wasn't really feeling the idea of Sweetie Belle as a love interest anymore. Maybe I'll write a story with an older Sweetie sometime in the future.
I'm glad you changed a few things in the end!
Mainly Celestia being an overprotective mother.
I would've gotten bored of the story if the characters were like this!
