Blog Post 5- Pinkie Pie, Rainbow Dash and Rarity.

Well, by this chapter, we've now finally heard from all the main characters that I listed on the story description.

As ever, it's the lesser characters who are fun to write. I'm currently writing Sir Fancy Pants as a slightly mischievous nice guy who is equally comfortable in the higher echelons of society or dealing with Pinkie Pie.

    Blog Post 4- Princess Luna

    Wow...

2000 words. When I started writing Princess Luna, I couldn't stop.

First thing you may notice- it's actually slightly behind the end of Chapter 3.

Also, only one pony this time! But I've been planning her for a while. Like Trixie, great fun to write.

    A few other things:

Posted up Chapter 2- Thoughts on writing.

One of my goals when having long discussions to make sure that people are doing something during them. You'll see this a lot in bad films, or older games, where two people talk by simply standing opposite each other and speaking. In real life, this doesn't happen. People move. People frown. In my stories, a lot of people frown.

I have frown lines. I probably frown too much.

Blog Post 6- The Civil Guard · 8:44am May 12th, 2012

With everyone finally getting a chapter so you know where they are, I've decided to start pushing the story forward.

So, with the first half, we have some chatting among the Civil Guard, which I see as the Equestrian police and downtime military. Those who work in Canterlott are called the City Guard, and are seen as a slightly higher class of Equestrian law enforement, and in terms of social status, just under the Royal Guard, who have absolutely no legal power and their remit is anything that concerns the Royal Family and in particular their safety, but nothing else.

I blame my Law A level and year of Law degree for this. I can't just write about it, I like to codify it in terms of what they can do. (In case you're interested, I found Law bornig and swapped uni courses).

So, we've now met Officer Old Bayonet, Officer Grunt McGruff and Sergeant "Smooth-Hoof" Rogue. They each represent a different kind of officer and person.

We've got Old Bayonet, a tough veteran who likes his job well-enough, he's good at it, and everyone respects him. He's a nice enough guy. Tends to be a tad too dutiful, and seen as a bit of a party pooper at times. You've kinda got an idea of what he's like anyway.

Grunt McGruff is based loosely off Grunt and Wrex from the Mass Effect series, he tends to listen more than talk, and doesn't have much patience with idiots. Also, he represents the idea in my mind that Pegasuses tend to be smaller and lightly built than the other breeds, since they're expected to fly (I even imagine they have hollow bones, similar to birds), so him being built like a bull makes him something of an outcast even when growing up. Of course, no one says anything to him (he's huge!) but he knows it and learnt to keep his mouth shut. However, the City Guard don't care about that, and he's more or less accepted.

Sergeant "Smooth-Hoof" Rogue is a more extroverted character, very popular with the troops, good with morale, looks after her own. She has a problem with ponies who try to mess with "her men", and when you combine it when Bayonet who tends to be quite starchy with strangers, you end up with someone who jumps in. Also, there was some flirting between her and Bayonet, I see? Hmmmm....
As for her nickname, you'll find out one day.

In the second half, we see the mane six, and finally Twilight has gone to the palace! (After two weeks). What has she been doing? Well, it will be in the next few chapters, but basically, research in ponyville, and she needed a nap and to explain to her friends when she arrived, so that's why she came the next day.

And why does Pinkie Pie believe Trixie and Twilight, but not the others?

Rarity just can't get over how much she really dislikes Trixie, and she had a party with Fancy Pants the next night, and she was looking after Sweetie Belle during the day.
Rainbow Dash just finds the whole thing ridiculous. What thing? You'll see soon...
