A little while ago, I was reading some old comments on a favorite story of mine, and I saw that someone had tried to critique it... in the worst way possible. Giving constructive criticism without sounding too harsh is a tough balancing act, and this person failed so hard I think they tripped and missed the ground.
I have long suspected that in reforming Discord, Hasbro wanted to make their Devil Incarnate character into Robin Williams from Disney's Aladdin.
Did anyone else notice that in Three's a Crowd, they turned him BLUE and had him RUB A LAMP??
Is there some kind of spray we can use to keep male pony OCs from springing up like weeds? Just asking.

That episode combined all of my biggest gripes about FiM seasons 3+. There's your Alicorn Cadence, your Princess Twilicorn, and your Reformed Discord all rolled into one show.
This is why all my stories are based in what I think of as "FiM Classic", which is basically just seasons 1 and 2, minus Cadance having wings. (BTW, I'm no fan of the Crystal Empire either.)
The connection with Aladdin and the intensely annoying Genie is one I hadn't made, but it's hard to un-see after you pointed it out.
I actually was more a fan of the Aladdin TV series than of the movie(s). I always associated Discord with the hilarious, mischievous, quasi-evil, insanely powerful Lord Chaos -- who, sadly, only appeared in one episode, When Chaos Comes Calling. (Look it up on YouTube, it's lovely!) Amusingly, Lord Chaos held sovereignty over Mirage, who was a recurring villain and really the show's counterpart of Queen Chrysalis. (Mirage was described a couple of times in the show as "evil incarnate".) Their interactions were great, and I can't help thinking Discord and Chrysalis should meet eventually in FiM. However... If Discord stays "reformed", then it wouldn't really be the same dynamic.
EDIT: Good luck finding When Chaos Comes Calling online! I found it before, but can't now. Disney are not as cool as Hasbro about having their stuff posted, I guess.
