First, know that there is no such thing as writer's block, just exhaustion, apathy, and possibly
the fear of having your work, your very life's blood, scrutinized by others.
I know this because you label yourself as a writer (or an artist, same thing in this regard), otherwise you wouldn't call it artist's writing block.
As a writer, writing is what you do and God help me, if writing is not what you love, you don't belong here.
Still reading? Good.
Know that as a writer you have a duty, a burden that no other human being can ever hope to bare, one that carves deep scars onto the earth wherever you trudge it. These scars coalesce into the words of stories crafted by your unique, beautiful mind.
Know that these words are your own, and can never be replicated by any other, that your words have value, even if the fact is not immediately apparent.
Know that giving up on your writing will be robbery of the worse degree, because writing is a game of influences, a melting pot, chock-full of the impressions vested in you by others the moment ink and pixel translates into word and thought.
Know that your writing will leave it's mark on others, those who pass by your work will learn either what to write like, or what to avoid like the plague in their own writing, most of the time, its both.
Those writers among you who read your work will subconsciously write just a little differently from what they usually do, all because of the thoughts you put into their heads.
That being said, write from your mind (for the heart is untrustworthy for anything but a faint influence) not anyone else’s, if you write thinking; “what would my readers like to read.” you will ultimately fail. Every .Single. Time. Because your readers know themselves better than you can ever hope to, they did not click on your story to read about something they like, they came to ravage with their eyes the content of your mind, heart, and soul for their own, oft times sick, amusement.
Build your world, visit it, and write the first things that you feel, see, hear, smell and taste down so that you can be able to understand it. Then you edit the crap out of it so that we can understand it. After that is done, watch the crowd tear your darling apart and devour it, maybe a few readers will be kind enough to comment on the meal.
If they say it’s good, hurrah! If not, they either don’t understand your work enough (back to the editing board!) or are just too idiotic/biased/ choosy to appreciate your work.
As you write, you will improve and as you improve you will be able to convey more and more complexities in your writing, above all else, never give up when you meet “failure” because without it, there truly would be no concept of success, progress or development.
So when exhaustion strikes, take a nap.
When fear bares it’s fangs, don’t.
And when apathy dares to show it’s ugly face, you put it into an arm bar and beat the living crap out of it until it unhands your motivation.
I truly hope my rambling has helped you in some way, shape or form. Now if you would...
Fulfill your duty, Writer.
