    Question

I have a psychological horror-thriller story that's been in the works for over a year now, and all I have to show for it is one and a half chapters out of nine. I've been waiting to write the whole thing before I publish it, but I feel a little guilty not having published anything in awhile. So, I have a question:

Welp, I should probably say some things. · 1:39am May 10th, 2012

Well hello there, friends and acquaintances (mostly acquaintances). I'm kind of dealing with PTSD here after getting Finding Your Elements featured on Equestria Daily. I must say I was fully not expecting that, nor was I expecting to open up my email and see I got 100+ new messages saying someone favorited my story. Not that I'm complaining, but holy sheet. I have some serious expectations to live up to now, I guess.

Moving on to actual story-related news. Some of you are probably wondering why I'm taking so darn long on getting out the next chapter of Finding Your Elements. Well, it's simple really. As some of you may or not be aware of, there's something called "life" that does tend to get in the way a lot. Someone has to understand what I'm talking about, right? Right?

Anyways, there's also another tidbit that I'm dealing with. The dreaded curse known as "Writer's Block."

Don't get me wrong, I know exactly what I plan to do, it's just getting things to transition properly, as well as making characters sound believable. And young fillies act differently then their older counterparts ever so slightly (even if it isn't much), so there's that aspect that gets thrown in. Right now, I'm cruising at a good 3,286 words of an estimated 7,000. So I'm about half way done. If I don't get it out this week, I can guarantee I will kick my own ass to get this chapter out next week.

Secondly, while I have been dealing with the Writer's Block and have been away from my computer because of reasons, I have been periodically working on this other story from my smartphone. I have already given it a title, but because of other reasons I'm going to keep it secret until the story itself is completed. However, I feel obligated to share a small excerpt of it to make up my lack of updating. So here the first page and a half. And please tell me what you think of it, if you don't mind.

Extremely brief description: Rainbow Dash joins a book club. (Partially inspired by the story Reading Rainbow)

Twilight Sparkle trotted around the library for the umpteenth time, making sure everything was in order. Snacks were available on the table in the center of the library floor and cushiony pillows littered the ground that ponies could sit on. Twilight gave a final look over of Managing a Book Club for Eggheads, quadruple checking to make sure she hadn’t missed anything the book explicitly described. Satisfied that she met the requirements for a proper gathering, all she had to do now was wait.

She didn’t know how many ponies to expect, but with a small town like Ponyville it couldn’t be much. That combined with the fact that it would be the first meeting meant initial numbers were likely going to be low. Once word gets around however, more and more members should hopefully join. The success of her book club was riding on how this first meet goes. Understandably, not everypony was likely to get there on time. So the actual time club activities would start at was 4:10, even though the flyer said four. It was a small lie, but at the same time it technically wasn’t.

After what felt like a century, the clock finally struck four o’clock. The wall clock gave off a familiar “pang” in emphasis of this monumental moment of time. Twilight’s heart raced as she made minute adjustments to everything before she bolted straight for the front door of the library. Sitting up on her haunches, she over excitingly wrapped the door handle in an aura of magic, ready to practically rip the piece of wood off its hinges. Complete silence enveloped the library, Twilight’s ear standing up and aimed at the door, waiting for any vibrations that would indicate somepony knocked on it.

At 4:07, her heart’s desire was finally met. At the sound of the faintest of hoof-knocking-on-wood noises, Twilight heaved with all her might and sent the gate swinging open. The hapless pony who happened to be on the other side was nearly thrown off her hooves as face met door.

Twilight almost jumped out of the entryway to greet her first member. “Welcome to the first meeting of the Ponyville Book Club! I’m so glad you could…” she stopped, looking at the dazed pegasus who lay on the ground before her. “Rainbow Dash?”

The pegasus in question stood up on her shaky hooves, staggering backwards in her attempt to maintain balance. Rainbow Dash gave a cautious prod to her own snout, somewhat pleased that it wasn’t broken. Part of her wished it was; it’d give her an excuse to leave.

“Oh. Um… hey Twilight,” came Rainbow Dash’s uncomfortable reply. Looking for a distraction, she immediately began adjusting her saddlebags as her eyes wandered everywhere but directly in front.

“What are you doing here?” Twilight asked a bit nosier than intended. She shook her head, dismissing her own question for a statement. “I’m sorry, but whatever it is I can’t help you right now. I got a book club starting soon and I can’t have you interfering today.”

“Yeah, about that…” Rainbow Dash nervously scratched the back of her neck. “That’s kind of why I’m here. I wanted to, you know… join.”

Twilight’s mental gears stalled. She blankly stared at her pegasus friend, and after a small awkward silence Rainbow Dash’s words and their meaning suddenly registered in her mind. Her eyes widened in complete shock accompanied by the most unsettling of grins. Twilight’s enthusiasm only made the pegasus sulk away.

“You know, never mind. This was a bad idea,” Rainbow Dash said wearily, ready to turn away.

Still rather rough, and it will get a thorough edit at some point. Estimated to be about 8,000 words long upon completion. Now I say good day to you all.

Good Day
