Another story idea.
Zecora's Tales
When Princess Twilight goes to Zecora for a friendly get together after a long time of not seeing each other, they start to talk with each other about how life was, how they were doing, and friendly things like that.
Until it gets darker. For Zecora, being the old, wise zebra that she is, knows a lot more about Equestria than Twilight does.
And she can't bear to have another clueless princess in the mix like her sister-in-law, Cadence.
And so the friendly chat turned into more of a history lesson for Twilight, a history that she's never known before.
The hidden history.

It could work. Indeed, we have all seen certain aspects of the show we put down to bad writing, which if we took to heart would make Equestria a terrible place for nonponies and ponies created from magic:
The Cetartiodactyla (even-toed hoofed mammals and whales whose ancestors where even-toed hoofed mammals) who are sentient, sapient, and verbal may be slaves.
Donkeys, zebras, zonies, zonkeys, and mules may be second-class citizens or tolerated noncitizens.
If we do not ignore S03E03 “Too Many Pinkies” (I personally prefer to pretend that the episode never happened) ponies born of magic instead of sex are not considered ponies and killing them is not murder, despite them being sentient, sapient, and verbal.
In mine headcanon, I prefer to imagine that these examples are bad writing and the real Equestria is an Utopia.

I forgot to mention that it is ethical to use mindrapespells:
* Twilight Sparkle mindraped parasprites, which then ate the town.
* Discord mindraped the Mane 6.
* Twilight Sparkle tried to mindrape the CMC, but ended up mindraping the whole town,causing a riot.
* The CMC mindraped Big MacIntosh and Cherilee.
* Sombra mindraped the CrystalEmpire.
* Twilight Sparkle tried to mindrape Discord, but he already ate the words.
* Princess Twilight Sparkle mindraped the VampireFruitBats, which unintentionally mindraped Fluttershy, thus creating FlutterBat.
Setting aside the ethics of mindcontrol, everytime it is used it ends badly. One would think that these spells should be kept in a restricted archive, and their use would be strictly controlled. Evidently not.

I put it down to bad writing and imagine that Equestria is better than those examples. The alternative is that Equestria has the equivalent of the NRA (National Rifle-Association) which keeps these spells available to learn and legal to use:
The NRA says that if we outlaw guns, only outlaws will have guns. This is true, but a red herring:
The purpose of guncontrol is for keeping guns from lunatics. I suspect that the NRA fights guncontrol because its members fear that the police would take away their guns because of their paranoia. Just being paranoid does not make its members legally insane, so their fear is baseless. They would have to be delusional too in order to be legally insane. This paranoid fear of the government taking away their guns is ungrounded.
The spokesunicorn for the EMCSA (Equestrian MindControlSpellAssociation) has a statement:
“¡You will have to pry the mindcontrolspells from my cold dead horn!”
