Any Interest in a 'Demon Slayer' Spinoff? · 4:50am Jan 5th, 2014

If you haven't read A Mighty Demon Slayer Grooms Some Ponies, but plan to, don't open this blog post, as it contains spoilers.

Galaxy has plans. Big plans.

Someone just reminded me of an idea I'd kicked around for another "longfic" (because in fan fiction you can't say "novel"). It would be a spinoff of A Mighty Demon Slayer Grooms Some Ponies: specifically, it would run under the title Exiles from Paradise and would follow the adventures of the twinkle-eyed ponies, their three big brothers, and Crunch the Rockdog after they leave Dream Valley with the Heartstone to seek a new home.

It would, in other words, be a sequel to chapter six, "Megan Grooms Applejack," which is the most important chapter, as evidenced by the cover art:

Still not sure what the evergreen bough is about, though.

The story would be pretty much entirely G1-focused. I don't have an exact outline yet, but I imagine it would be a quest-like adventure. I intend to make the three witches of the Volcano of Gloom (who never got a final resolution) the primary villains, and we might see reappearances of some other G1 characters as well; in particular, I'd like to bring in Knight Shade, the whiny pop star.

Even though the story would be all G1, I believe it would escape the moderators' censure by virtue of its relationship to Demon Slayer as well as its claim to be the prehistory of the Crystal Empire. I might bookend it with something explicitly G4-related to make it kosher.

I don't envision beginning it right away, but I'd like to know if anyone is interested in reading it.

I certainly would!

I'd definitely read it!

I definitely would! I loved Demon Slayer, so a spin-off from it would be cool!

Count me interested. I want to know how their gradual transformation into living crystal will affect them.

I don't think a completely G1 fic would be nearly as popular as your other stories, but you're certain to have some readers at the least. You could try and figure out a way to have Cadence and Shining Armor go over ancient history, but if you want to focus on G1 then there's nothing stopping you.

BTW, I've seen several authors here call their longfics "novels". It's not like anything's stopping them either.

Since it's a semi-sequel, I'd be most interested in picking up readers who'd already read Demon Slayer and wouldn't necessarily expect a lot of new readers. The story would probably start with the twinkle-eyed ponies having already left. I don't intend to rehash what's in the original story.

Well, you could have a G4 pony being the narrator of the story. I like the idea.

I was kind of thinking it might be a chronicle dug out of the Crystal Empire's archives.

Why yes, I would definitely be interested in such a story. ;)

You could have Princess Cadence being informed of the chronicle being found. But is written in ancient Equestrian instead of English. Then you could have Twilight Sparkle read and translates the book to modern Equestrian.

And the book could be what lead to find a way to opening the Rainbow Bridge again. Basically, it involved a Sonic Rainbow, fancy mathematics, the use of crystals and lots of mirrors. Plus the magic of four alicorns and a magic pentagram that looks out of FMA.

After all, you never made it clear how they opened the Rainbow Bridge in the story.

Yeah, I'd read it.

It looks like an interesting idea.

By the way, "novel" simply refers to a work of fiction that's over 50,000-100,000 words long. Nowhere does it specify original work.

i would skip it because G1 is stupid and dumb.

Okay, no, I'd probably read it. But I'd grumble and gnash my teeth while doing so.

All of my anticipated yeses. :pinkiehappy:

That sounds so awesome! :rainbowkiss:

Fuck the mod's opinion of G1. :twilightangry2:
I'll read it.

I do enjoy me some crystal ponies.

I just finished what so far exists of the original.
All I can say is, 'Write that the shit up'.

I'm still waiting for a Demon Slayer sequel anyway (pending or not a final chapter rewrite), so I would welcome a spinoff as well.

Sounds fun. I would read it.

Sounds good to me. You do origin stories and history very well, so this sounds like it will quite the adventure.

That's risky, Cold. Don't you know my blog is hardcore G1 fan territory? All the G1-ers hang out at my place.

And Megan is best pony.

Making the sequel into a prequel... I LOVE IT!

I'd read it! I loved Demon Slayer, and am generally pretty fond of G1 stuff.

I like Knight Shade, but not Zeb the paedozebra. Seriously, that guy was Stranger Danger with stripes.

I would prefer it if you finished demon slayer and its direct sequel first, but so long as there was not too much of a delay on them I wouldn't mind reading this.

Sure! But finish Demon Slayer first. I am eager for the next chapter.

Demon Slayer is complete. The TS chapter is the climax and leaves no need for denouement.

1691248

I would rather like to show the horse show, which the story promises from chapter one on.

1691248 And yet, the status says the story is on hiatus, suggesting there will be more eventually.

I think what Sozmioi means is that he does not think the story needs a further chapter.

I partly agree with him and partly disagree. The story ended up having a climax and conclusion in its seventh chapter that I did not originally plan (I started the story before we knew Twilight was going to be a princess, remember), and the final chapter that I did originally plan fell flat. Nonetheless, as it stands it has plot threads I intentionally left loose, so I am not entirely satisfied with it.

1691300

You could add the horse show, but I can see why it would be hard - you would need to actually find something that still needs to be said.

Unless of course it ends up being about something completely different. Maybe use that to introduce the frame-tale for the second story?

1691300 (Never got to read that chapter. Twas deleted before I knew about it.:fluttershysad:)
True. After all, the horse show is obviously pretty important. And the relations of Equestria and Earth. And other stuff.(which I don't remember cuz it's been awhile since I read it.)
So I'm guessing it's tagged as "On Hiatus" because you're not sure whether to continue? Well, in case I'm right, KEEP GOING PLEASE! That is, if you don't mind.

I would read it. :) I love how you're giving the G1 ponies a real and lovable part on Fimfiction. These stories are one reason I've been looking at older episodes. Just got done watching "The Return of Tambelon". Glad I figured out who Grogar the Demon Ram is.

Is it just me, or does he sound a LOT like Sombra? Conquering and enslaving races, draws dark power from a physical source (I think he uses the crystals to amplify his power, but that's just me), and banishing entire lands for centuries. That dark magic spell he was preparing has pretty much the same effect as Sombra's curse. Though only half as strong.

I like the idea of Hydia, Reeka, and Draggle being the antagonists. They were kind of interesting. Draggle was the washout failure of the sisters, and Reeka seemed to like power a little too much. Hydia, for all her blustering and magic, seems much weaker than she appears. She didn't even know why to attack Flutter Valley without several prompts from the ghosts of the past. Each whitch hides a secret and an inadequacy. Finding those out would really make them resonate.

I never could really tell the Twinkle-Eyed ponies from the others, but I wasn't really looking. My own favorites are the Flutter Ponies, and the Sun Stone. I've got pieces of a fic right there, but I'm going off topic.

Hope you decide to write it. As for Demon Slayer, I think an Epilouge would be best.

I'd read it. I really liked A Mighty Demon Slayer Grooms Some Ponies. It helped me create some head canon. :pinkiehappy:
I wasn't aware there was a rule preventing purely previous gen stories, but I guess it makes sense. "Fim" fiction after all.

I don't think the show ever makes explicit mention of the twinkle-eyed ponies being different from the others, except perhaps in "The Golden Horseshoes," in which the sick Mimic is said to have "lost her twinkle." Some of the ponies in the show simply have jeweled eyes, but it isn't explained, and you might miss them if you're not looking. In fact, I had to make constant recourse to the My Little Pony wiki to keep track of which ponies were twinkle-eyed and which ones weren't. Starbat's interpretation (as in the picture in the post) makes their jeweled eyes more obvious.

Their origin story, to which I was faithful, but on which I expanded considerably, comes from the comic book and has no real relation to the show. Having them remain a distinct group within Dream Valley, still bearing scars of their ordeal, is entirely my own invention.

I think Galaxy first appears in the movie, if I'm not mistaken, and I remember noticing her jeweled eyes but not recognizing their significance. I thought they gave her a sort of regal look, which seemed appropriate, as she was usually a leader and one of the more sensible ponies. I'd like to develop her character further.
