Lots of Good for a Little Bad · 9:44pm Jan 2nd, 2014

Bad news? Tomorrow I go back to my day job. I'm not looking forward to it, mostly because it cuts into my literary time which, recently, has become like a full-time job unto itself. I hate to say it, but updates will probably slow down again. Why oh why can't I get paid to do this? Oh well, 'tis a silly dream.

But lots of good things have been happening lately! Trixie vs. Equestria is undergoing a proper edit (thanks, Cerulean!), frequent commenter Mercgilado has become my first official pre-reader, A Figment of Her Imagination has been very well received (check it out!) and I've started a new contest at Random Romance! I've also decided to vest some time in another writer's development by offering up reviews.

Best of all, I've finally returned to work on Lightning's Bolt! Behold:

In No Heroes Book II: The Journey Home, Lightning returned to the orphanage that raised her only to watch it - and all the children she loved - burn to ashes. But the tragedy wasn't a total loss: she was able to rescue one filly. Burdened by failure, Lightning decides to take tiny Keen Arrow into her care.

But the horrors of that night still haunt them both. How can Keen, a mere five-year-old unicorn, cope with the terrors she faced at that orphanage? How can Lightning be sure that the little filly is who she thinks? Their mutual fears - of the future, of the world, of one another - may undo the fragile survivor's bond they now share.

But they aren't alone. Fine Crime, who saved them both at their most desperate, is watching in his usual quiet manner, and Fluttershy may be just the gentle touch Keen needs to open up to the curious ponies of Ponyville.

But even if they overcome their fears, what of Lightning's responsibility? Is she ready to take on a parent's role? Does she even know what she's supposed to do? The aggressive and fierce Lightning may have to rethink everything in her life to make this work. But in the end, it might just be worth it.

Merc is pre-reading the new chapters before they come out, which is a new thing for me. We'll see if that has any effect on how long it takes to update, but I doubt it.

So yeah, busy busy busy. This year's starting off pretty good, terrible illnesses aside.

Oh, please. Just quit your job. Then you'll have all the time you want to write.

Yeah, food, shelter, electricity and whatnot aren't all that important, why pay bills? :pinkiecrazy:

Well, it wouldn't really be new if you let me edit things before they get posted, now would it? Making a new chapter shine before people read it usually gives editors motivation to perform. By this method, your updates will be delayed by a few hours at the most.
