Adversity: status update · 7:38pm Jan 1st, 2014
Funnily enough, I didn't get as much time off over Christmas break as I would have hoped. The grocery store I worked at needed me for extra shifts. So, between that and time relaxing, I figure I might as well give a status update for all my stories.
This has been the status update I've been dreading a little bit; it is the hardest to describe what I plan to do.
Currently, I haven't done too much on Adversity since the last chapter, and it is long overdue for an update. The problem is, I'm not sure what to do. Oh, don't worry, scraping it is not one of the options. One of my goals for this month is to both decide what to do to the story, and do one of the following.
1) Write the next chapter, continuing the story.
2) Rewrite the story, altering the story dramatically.
Yes, I feel ridiculous to put the second option up there, considering how many times it has been rewritten. It was my first real story, even before Collateral.
The first rewrite was entirely to fix the story's rather abysmal grammar and other issues. This was a quick rewrite as it was relatively easy to do, only taking down and republishing the chapters after they had been edited.
The second rewrite was when I acquired a couple of proof-readers to help with the story. Story elements were changed, and it is the current form. I also greatly improved the quality of the writing.
Now to the problem currently. Both rewrites were only patches to the problem: Adversity was never really an inspired story. It was a story for the sake of writing story. The crux of the problem now, is I finally have the inspiration, but the story is not where I want it to be. It would involve dramatically shifting the story, rewriting it (for the final time). Similar yes, though perhaps it might be better off being called a restructuring. Of course, a little extra note is that I've been having trouble getting into the head of the characters.
If any of you have feedback, I would love to hear it.
