So between this and Diamond of the Capital Wasteland, what have we learned?

If you couldn't figure it out yourself, the answer is to not start writing a new story unless you have an actual plan for it from start to finish, because if you make a story on the basis of "wouldn't if be cool if..." and just try to let it write itself from there, then it could easily trail off and die when you run out of inspiration due to a lack of any idea for a story direction.

So, do you want to write the letter to Princess Celestia, or shall I?
