Welcome to "Bringing Up Blueblood" · 12:03am May 2nd, 2012
Well, My Little Alicorn's first(?) sequel has begun. And yes, we're stuck with Prince Blueblood as our protagonist. How did we go from cute filly Alicorns to the most hated character in FiM?
As I mentioned in the other pointless, rambling blog posts I've made, Blueblood's story arc in My Little Alicorn was a mess. Originally, he was supposed to be the primary antagonist, but his appearances got pushed out as the Kuchen subplot took more and more prominence. By the time that was (supposed to be) wrapped up, the Celestia/Luna struggle was taking center stage, relegating Blueblood to a very minor, almost forgotten plot point. This left me with only two chapters to finally finish him off with. The problem was, there was no real way to satisfyingly bring Blueblood to justice with the very little I'd actually done with the character.
So I had him regressed to a foal, trapped him that way, and then threw in a sequel hook in the last few paragraphs. My intention was to ignore him and jump to what was supposed to be the next sequel. As I thought my way through it, however, I realized that Blueblood's story was probably more interesting than what was turning out to be an uninspired retread of the original. The finale sealed the deal, as Shining Armor and Cadance gave me even more material to work/torture Blueblood with.
And so here we are.
There's a few things I should probably just throw out there. Some of the episodes from Season 2 have forced me to play fast and loose with the show vs. fanfic timeline. They'll come up in the fic, so you don't have to read them right now, but they're not really spoilers either:
* The timeline of My Little Alicorn starts shortly after Luna Eclipsed, which takes place in the fall. All the events in Bringing Up Blueblood take place before his most recent (to my knowledge) background appearance in Sweet And Elite, which for the sake of the story I moved towards the end of the season's events. It doesn't make a lot of sense, but then again, none of the episodes ever really matched up.
* The Royal Wedding hasn't happened yet, and is still a ways down the line. Shining Armor and Cadance are engaged and living together, but she's currently away on royal business.
* Cadance isn't immortal. She's a few years younger than Blueblood, and about the same age as Shining Armor. She'll live a normal pony lifetime, can do all the things a normal pony can do, and will eventually pass away. Her having wings and a horn are the result of very rare genetics, nothing more, and although she's more powerful than other ponies, she can only really exercise that ability when it relates to love.
That's about it. See y'all next time.
I totally agree with your Cadence theory. I'll check out the story!
This clears up a few things, thanks.
I gotta say, when I first heard of the sequel back in EqD, I squealed like a little girl in glee, but when I saw it was about Blueblood, well, just imagine Pinkie Pie in "party of one" after she concludes her friends doesn't like her anymore...
But then I read It, and boy oh boy I felt so stupid for reacting like that So far it is, to put it simply, glorious!!!
Anyway, you made some pretty nice choices in regards of the timeline (and they do help out to understand some context of the story), and without a new episode threatening to destroy part of the universe you are building, the story should go on very smoothly, and just as great, or hopefully more than its predecessor
PS: Huh, so I finally found something positive regarding the lack of new episodes
Ya theory for Cadance makes sense, look at the Cake twins.
Can't wait for more
Totally makes sense to me,

nice :)
That's my Cadance theory as well, so I approve!
I like it ^^. Being a foal pretty much works with how Blueblood acted all the time. Lofty is soo gonna beat him up tho..
I really enjoy the story so far, regardless of the protagonist being Blueblood.
When I saw Lofty would be included in this story as well, oho! Won't be as easy for Blueblood as he'd hoped! I look forward to seeing where this is going.
