I think a slight washed out impression applied to the texture of the banner would be perfect.
That said, I really like the knight too.

I also really like the knight, and it carries a slight relevance of the story.
BUT, the ruined flag and the phoenix carries much much more relevance of the story, start to finish.
BUUT... the knight is cool.
Still kinda stuck between yes and no, but I might try it on for a week or so, and maybe the knight is missed.
