A question about Lucario's updated X & Y moveset. · 2:38pm Nov 27th, 2013
While I had been looking forward to the release of Pokémon X & Y just as much as the next guy, I admit that I was a bit worried about the potential changes it would bring to Lucario. No, I'm not talking about his Mega Evolution. I was pretty set on ignoring that for the sake of my planned story to begin with. The part I WAS worried about was his updated moveset.
Since Lucario in my story is able to use every move available to his species (for reasons yet unexplained in the plot), writing exciting fight scenes for him has been easy and a lot of fun. However, long-time readers of Friendship is Aura have probably picked up on some of his more favorably used moves, most notably ExtremeSpeed. I mean, when you have access to a move that lets you move around faster than the naked eye can detect, it's logically in your best interest to adapt that move to your fighting style as effectively as possible. If an insanely useful move like that was introduced with X & Y, one that would've totally changed the way Lucario fights, I would have to either rewrite his past fight scenes in the fic to incorporate it, somehow introduce it in a not-coming-out-of-nowhere way in a future battle, or ignore it like I'm doing with his Mega Evolution.
Thankfully, in that sense, Lucario was for the most part untouched in terms of his moveset. He doesn't learn any Fairy-type moves, for example, and he doesn't learn a new game-breaking move like I feared he would... with the possible exception of one:
Power-Up Punch, a Fighting-type attack newly introduced with the X & Y games. Power-wise, it's only as strong as a Vacuum Wave or a Bullet Punch, and it lacks the two's speed. However, for every hit it lands on an enemy, it increases the user's Attack stat. For Lucario in Friendship is Aura, that would translate to him fighting his enemy up close while throwing weak punches, only for them to get stronger over time and increase the power of his other physical attacks as well.
What do you guys think of this move? Should I adopt it into Lucario's moveset and somehow have him bring it up in a future fight? Is it such a game-changing move that you think Lucario should've used it in at least one fight before this point? Or do you think I should just go on as planned and ignore this move's existence? You're on the deciding point this time, guys. Let me hear your opinions.

Do whatever is considered right to you my friend. Pokemon X and Y may have gave out ample changes, but you shouldn't let those changes get in the way of your exquisite story.
1546586 Whoa, that was quick.
See, the thing is that Power-Up Punch doesn't really come in the way of the storyline like Lucario's Mega Evolution does. It's just a new, rather effective attack that he could probably have use of in both past and future battles. I could seriously go either way in deciding what to do with it, which is why I'm asking you readers what you'd like me to do. It won't affect the story regardless of what you want.
1546602 Well, if that's the case - go for it.
I have to agree with Scale Burner, i have to say go for it. But really it's up to you. But i will be there to support the decision you make for your story. I still enjoy your story kang.
The move has potential for being a running plot device on stronger enemies, but I'm on the fence about it myself. All in all, it's your call.
I say do it.
I'm not sure what yuo can do because now Lucario doesn't learn Force Palm, Riolu does. Force Palm got replaced by Power Up Punch(which is why I missed it) and so I would leave out anything related to gen 6 as it would complicate things too much. I still think you should have him go Mega in like one or two battles because his fighting spirit goes through the roof, sort of like when he broke out of the moon that NMM was crushing him in. He could have come out as Mega, kicked ass, and then after the battle just pass out from exhaustion and wake up de-evolved. Oh well I'm only your editor and it's your story so do what you want.
Power-Up Punch would be a major help to Lucario in the future.
I say do what ever you want, but i'll give my thoughts on power-up punch. I think this move would not work well with how this lucario works. my feelings about lucario's fighting style is that he is only as strong as he needs to be. strong enough to defeat his opponent yet weak enough to give them a chance to redeem. not to mention he can already completely destroy anyone who refuses this offer, to have a move that automatically make him stronger would have him use it only a few times a battle where he is unable to access his other strengthening moves. it has potential, and useful, but it wouldn't change his fighting style too much.
Hmm... Well, as far as Power-Up Punch goes, I'll support you either way. In regards to you ignoring his Mega Evolution... I kind of want you to bring in the Mega Evolution, but ONLY in the final fight of the story. Of course, whatever you do is fine ^w^
If you do add this move in, you should make it to where it only strengthens the punch in itself or moves similar to it. Like there are a few physical attacks that lucario can use where he doesn't actually make contact with his target (Earthquake, Stone Edge, Rockslide) even though most of them he does. Even though the game uses stats to power up these moves anyway, for this story I think you should only have that move power up attacks where he actually makes contact with his target and not make it permanent power increases because he could get worn down or, even though they aren't actually using pokemon moves; some of his opponents attacks could lower his stats. And don't go back and add it into previous chapters, it isn't that ground breaking.
P.S. Sorry if I got too into the stat talk of pokemon, I get a little nerdy like that sometimes
