It was...
I actually really liked it! Started a tad slow, but once it picked up, I found myself saying 'oh hell yeah' and 'no fucken way' quite a lot. Discord was in it, and he had plenty of lines, made for some good laughs. There's a lot of history in it too. Might ruin some of your headcanon, but I think they left it fairly vague. I loved Celestia in it... shit got pretty powerful for a few moments... *Sniff* Come to think of it, there were some pretty feels-y moments.
10/10 would watch again!
PS - When you're watching the opening theme (which is slightly modified), pay attention to the right side of the screen when you see Fluttershy. Hehehe.

I'm gonna keep saying this, but I actually noticed something interesting. This episode, again, without spoilers, had a very similar plot to an old Dreamcast game called Elemental Gimmick Gear. I've got a picture and a more in-depth explanation, even a download link, on my own blog if anyone's interested. I'd just repost it here, but then I'd just be doing that all day.

If you've got a couple gigs of free memory and a few free days, not to mention a little bit more time to set up a Dreamcast emulator, it really is worth it. You... may have to torrent the actual .iso file (AKA the game) itself, though. It's still one of my favorite games.
Come to think of it, the Dreamcast had a lot of cool games. Which is a bit ironic considering it was outdated and unpopular before I was born. My dad got me into a lot of old movies, and tv shows, and guff like that. I'm like the exact opposite of one of the cool kids.

It's kind of like trying to get people to watch MLP for the first time; It's so unbelievably good, you just have to try and share it with absolutely everyone. Guess the episode was just convenience.

1534734 Thank heavens for youtube! I had never expected the episodes to come out so soon. It was out less than a few hours after it premiered. I had no idea how long I would have to wait. I joined the fandom during S 3 (I guess during, maybe after) I didn't see anything to the right of Flutters, but it was good to see that Hasbro has made improvements in the opening credits itself. Firstly, it isn't just the Mane 6,but the other background ponies too in the photo, probably signifying their increased involvement? Secondly,Luna is standing next to Celestia when she receives the letter. MORE LUNA, HOPEFULLY??? The loss of a song is quite weird. It is the season premiere, why is there no song??? But, yeah. Overall it was good!
1536230 Honestly, I was damn glad there were no songs. I mean... I get the musical thing, and if you look at the S3 finale as a musical, it's pretty damn good. But.... the music kinda dominated what little airtime that episode had, and I think that irked a lot of people, including me. So they probably wanted to make it clear that they knew what was wrong and that they're trying to set an example, so to speak, for the next season. Kindof shirking that 'broadway musical' vibe. Not to say they won't have songs anymore, I'm sure they will, but hopefully they'll go back to that nice, delicate balance they had before.
As for the background characters in that photo... YEA MAN, I'm really starting to wonder if Snips and Snails, for example, will be more involved now. Let's see who's there... The Cakes, Mayor Mare, CMC, Spike, Snips, Snails, Zecora, Big Mac, and Granny Smith. Interesting. The Apple Family seems like a given, and poor Spike was never involved in anything (nice that he was in S4 premiere!), but the rest of them... is strange. Oh! And Photo Finish is taking the picture! But hey, here's hoping we get more background ponies!

Discord mentioned "I hope she breaks into song" and I didn't see any song, so I was wondering if it wasn't uploaded due to copyright or something weird. But apparently, all the earlier generations had songs and it was kind of like a main part of MLP. So maybe the authors are moving on, so to say, from the earlier stuff which were regarded as norm(like songs. It was a flood of never ending songs) and going out of the box. That would be interesting to see what they would come up with.
