One the Subject of Writing, and the Hardships of an Author · 7:11pm Apr 26th, 2012
Hey, guys! I just want to formally warn you all of something. I hinted at it before, but maybe I wasn't very clear.
I am running many stories at once, right now. From Naruto, to Pokemon, Harry Potter, to My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I like to multitask, and I never quite stick to one genre or style. This makes finishing anything difficult. Especially when I've got things like school, the distractions that are games, and even two original novels in the making!
This isn't an excuse, though. It's a request. Authors need support, no matter how much they tell you that they only write for themselves. We all know this isn't true, it can't be. No matter what the original purpose, a writer or author eventually publishes their work for the sole purpose of praise. To know that someone took time out of their lives to emerse themselves in the world we pour so much energy into creating, and came out the other end happy? That's one of the best feelings writing gives us. From page-long reviews to a simple "That was great! Nice work. ", every little comment helps. It makes us strive to make you not just want, but need more. And sure, haters and bad reviews feel like a punch in the gut, but honestly? They read it. And while they may not have liked it, that memory will stick with them for a while. And since they didn't like it, that memory will torment them. Bonus for me!
Still, just the fact that anyone on this site likes my work, how little has been released, anyway , is amazing. Over on FanFiction.net, I posted like eight chapters of one story on the first day, along with a chapter in like four more. The very next day, I was overwhelmed! And while the flow of praise has slowed down at about the same rate my updates have, they still come in from time to time. And that makes me happy, and keeps me writing: that no one has forgotten about me.
I guess what I’m saying is that you shouldn’t get discouraged when your favorite story hasn’t updated in forever. Just give the writer a heartfelt message or review, reminding them that you still love them, and will wait patiently.
Well, this turned into a letter to Celestia at some point, so I’ll end it here. Goodbye everyone, and keep being awesome!
